You know what I wanna see in a #Linux distro? An intro video for the first time you boot up your install, just like what #macOS used to have. I think that would really help boost the appeal of Linux to normies and professionals alike. You can still skip it, maybe with Control+Alt+Del, so you wouldn’t skip it by hitting a key by accident. The music could also be Creative Commons licensed in the spirit of #FOSS.

I'll be honest, when I program in #Rust, I actually have no idea what the crunch I'm writing half the time. I've slowly figured out what the unwrap() function does, but other things like borrowing (&), I have no idea what I'm doing, I'm just doing what the compiler's telling me to do, lol. 🙃

@veer66 I will say, #Rust's compiler is SUPER helpful to people like me who aren't familiar with the more in-depth nuances of low-level programming. I'd probably go on to say that it's the most helpful compiler I've ever used so far.

You know, with how quick Donald Trump is to say virtually anything that's on his mind, it's almost a miracle that he hasn't said anything bad enough to cause the Russian government to send over their nuclear missiles from the Cold War over to the US, or cause any other country to start a war against the US just because of something that he said on social media.

@thenewoil I feel like this only adds a small amount of security, but not privacy. If anything, this might actually tank your privacy down a few pegs because Google can easily corelate that data about you with other data about you with near perfect accuracy. At least with services like Privacy.com, you aren't *directly* trusting known malicious anti-privacy actors like Google, Facebook and Amazon, even if some of it might get leaked to them anyway. Decentralization is key here.

Can we as a society not promote surveillance capitalism, or mass surveillance in general? One thing that I always miss from my #iPhone 12 Pro Max going to the #Pixel5a is the camera and the camera apps. I currently use #OpenCamera on #GrapheneOS, and it leaves a lot to be desired. The image quality is just only slightly better than GrapheneOS's camera app. I feel like GraheneOS's camera API just isn't properly implemented for my device compared to #CalyxOS, but I like the more hardened nature of GrapheneOS.

You know how people in the mid-to-late 2000's always carried a separated digital camera along with their feature phones when they went to special events? Well, I think that's the situation I'm gonna use my #iPhone for, lol, since it has the best cameras of any device I own. I may look into getting into #DSLR cameras and that stuff in the future and trying it out, but for now, I'll stick with my iPhone as my camera for special occasions.

@thenewoil Regardless of whether you agree with abortions or not, the fact that law enforcement can subpoena companies like #Meta for "private" chat messages for anything is deeply troubling. This is why we as privacy advocates recommend using apps like #Signal to ensure that your communications are truly private and secure. What happens when something you say now will criminalize you 20 years from now? This is why #privacy is so important to everyone.

:BoostOK: Do not kill the password! In the US at least, passwords are considered knowledge, so you are constitutionally protected from revealing passwords as per the 5th amendment of the US Constitution. That means the government can't legally get the password out of you.
