@Sir_Boops Apparently SIP is very DNS-sensitive, i've found that out the hard way. Internal calls failed because the DNS resolve order was wrong.

@Sir_Boops In my case it did, because it tried to resolve the name of an internal device over the public DNS while it was glitch'd, so it would wait for it to time out, which took longer than it would for the call to fail.So trying to make a call just got stuck for a short while, then ended. Or it'd ring once, then fail when picked up.

@Sir_Boops It was! And annoyingly, i kept ignoring search results mentioning the DNS, because i was testing things local-only with direct IP, and there was no way i thought DNS could have any impact.

@cliffwade To my knowledge, i haven't had it once, but i've had my 2 primary + 3x boosted with the last being a bivalent one, so it's possible i've been exposed but just never caught it, or never became symptomatic.I haven't been properly sick since 2019, which feels strange.

I spent what was probably an unreasonable amount of time making sure i could now flopsprawl in VR without clipping too much into the floor or myself. I feel very proud of this. And it fixes a big problem i had with feeling limbs resting on things when the visual did not match.

@foone If it can be a network printer instead of USB, it's pretty easy to do, PCL uses port 9100 to send the print job, it's possible to just have some software listen locally (or remotely) to that port, accept the data, and just discard it.I've done that in the past with a generic LaserJet PCL driver, both to discard unwanted print jobs that would never clear until successful, or capture it for data extraction.

@foone Because this was bugging me, i played with it, and i found that you can actually just create a printer on the nul: port under Windows, and have it successfully print jobs to the void.

@foone No errors, print jobs just vanish from the spooler after being successfully written to nul:

@foone I think it's in the "So basic it doesn't need one" category. If you look at Art-Net, which is basically DMX over IP, the packets are literally the string "Art-Net", 10 more bytes of header data, then sequentially the value of each DMX address, sequentially. Then an art-net -> DMX converter box essentially just reads the packet and sends the values sequentially as received over the line. There's no handshake, state or anything. It's that plain. So yeah, it's absolutely stupid-easy to control just about anything DMX from anything, even if it's not meant to.Or there's also serial/usb DMX adapters where you basically just write 512 bytes and repeat.

@foone Considering the pin count, it'd almost make sense for it to be an early "Disk On Module".

@foone Good point. I also like that with wired keyboard and mices, it's easy to just follow the cord to figure out which device it controls.

@foone It's a trap because even if the program doesn't work, you've still replaced a boring problem with an interesting one.

@foone That's a problem that has thousands of solutions for floating around! Also, you may be surprised by how many dot matrix printers did eventually have an ethernet interface card as option.

@foone If it was harder, maybe i would stop (ab)using PHP for nearly everything, even if it has nothing to do with webpages.
