       What IM do you guys use? I have family on #Messenger, #Ukraine contacts on #Telegram and #Viber, I know people in #UK use #WhatsApp but that's the only one I don't use... and although I have #Signal, I don't know a single person who actually uses it.I'm guessing the types who inhabit my instance would prefer #Signal, but I'm curious what people prefer. What do you guys actually use in real life - given it's hard to shift people from the platform where all their friends/family already are?

       @joel #XMPP and #Matrix are two whose existence I only learnt of yesterday. 😆 Herein lies the problem with all these IMs: if your friends don't use them, neither will you (or in this case know what they are).It's funny, but I remember chatting with my brother on #Steam chat, even though the messages seem to disappear pretty quickly. 😀 I think #Signal is the one I'll have the best luck with converting people.

       @RL_Dane I just wanted to reply to your toot to thank you for introducing me to #NewPipe, can't believe I've never seen it before.Download video/audio, play with the screen off, fast-forward during silences, up to 3x speed, no ads... damn, how did I miss this? 😀 Thanks for the recommendation!

       @RL_Dane Here's the thing: I HATE shorts! 😆 I go to YouTube for 20 minute, well-crafted content, not some TikTok ripoff (I don't use TikTok either, unsurprisingly). NewPipe therefore does the trick nicely for me.I think one reason I hate shorts/TikTok is that I can judge a video on YT by the thumbnail and title, and decide if I want the algorithm to include it in my watch history. With shorts, you have no choice: you just watch everything. Ugh. 😞

       @RL_Dane I thought you meant that shorts don't play on it... because I can't see them. If I search for a specific short then it'll play, but when I look through a channel's video list, or through my subs, the shorts aren't there.I don't mind watching shorts from my subs, but where are they? I've searched online and nobody seems to have this issue, and I've checked every setting. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? 😕

       @Raspberry_Pi This looks like a fun little project to do with my #RaspberryPi400, and the best thing is it'll all be on the SD card, so I can just put my RPi OS SD card back in, and everything's back to normal (yes, my Pi 400 is my "regular PC" these days 😀).
