@stux I feel like tech has become a chasm between me and family who are left, my parents died early so I don't have to help them with anything online, they were gone before iPhones came along and one before AOL.But with those remaining, I am only interesting when there is a problem, then I am remembered.And once I am not the available helper, I no longer exist.This is a period of change and some got on and some didn't even know it was departing.You created a family here.

@JonathanMBR A man who went to work in his office in Texas on a weekend was struck by a train coming through the outside wall and killed.Union Pacific saved money by using remote controlled locomotives on that switching job. They paid one fewer crew member and didn't have to pay an engineer because conductors with less stringent training wete operatung the equipment.They shoved cars into a siding without watching that end as required by federal law but not so much by company expediency.

@stux And then vendors gripe about people not upgrading.After having upgraded other apps and finding functionality stripped and more invasive permissions required because the company got bought by shitholes like Google or some VCs who want to wring out the users.I don't let anything "upgrade" if it already works. It's always worse after upgrading. See also Apple iOS, Android, macos.

@stux What's worse is they were pawns of hedge funds, who were trying to cover a bad bet by wrecking the crypto market. Of course the regulators did very little about that.But one Euro nation had to force its 2 largest banks to merge. On a Sunday, under great protest from UBS.And then voted to seal the records for 50 years from public view.Ever thought of owning an Alp?

@brosandprose @Lyzl I see it like physics: If there's natural gravitational attraction, then orbit commences. If something disrupts that, then orbiting may cease or be more distant.Trying to overcome those is preposterously exhausting and pointless.I've viewed marriage as an artificial external force trying to overcome a lack of attraction. Let things orbit as they will. No intellectual or religious argument can make love happen.
