@leo Great interaction with the Hacker News users. I met you on Sep 9, 2015 at a bar party organized by Paul Thurrot & Mary Jo Foley (though I was an Apple Mac & iPhone user). I told you how much I enjoyed the podcasts with Jerry Pournelle, and how I had read his Chaos Manor articles in Byte, though I knew he was old & few young people knew who he was. It was great to meet you after listening to your podcasts for so many years 🙂

@clive @dsilverman Great article, and I remember ashtrays everywhere in my childhood in the 1950’s 🙂

@dave @davew An incredible work of art. Stood in front of it for over 1/2-hour in Florence’s Uffizi Gallery admiring all the details. Definitely the highlight of a great museum 🙂

@stux @asymco Ha, drove across Canada in 1973 with 2 friends in the smaller truck with a camper bed on the back. At a time of gas shocks the old one was much easier to take cross-continent, but the new one would’ve been much more comfortable 🙂

@leo Drove to French Riviera & Monaco when lived in Switzerland. Followed many of the Monaco roads that snaked around the harbor that were part of the course, and drove high up on the Corniche where Princess Grace had her fatal accident (and where Alfred Hitchcock filmed her in “To Catch a Thief” in 1955).

@itnewsbot Incredible film. Grew up in those years, never thought of the manufacturing process for those machines. Doing the work in silicon instead of discrete wired components must have been an amazing transformation for the industry.

@itnewsbot Wow, remember the ADM-3A terminal & its use with S100 personal computers. Though it didn’t take long for memory-mapped displays to overtake the use of terminals 🙁

@itnewsbot No, we want to use OUR phone with YOUR cars, understand? Under no circumstances do we want a car company’s phone 🙁

@KingShawn @jeffcarlson @MikeTRose Used to go to Nikon House at Rockefeller Center in NYC where every Nikon camera, lens, & accessory was available to see & try with no purchase option to cloud your mind. Talk about Gear Acquisition Syndrome, it ran rampant there. Now only B&H Photo offers the opportunity to try new cameras & lenses, but unlike Nikon House there’s an expectation that you’ll want to buy what you’re playing with 🙂

@internetarchive Ha, yes 1929 was a great year. Sound had changed everything & brought new ways to enjoy the visual arts 🙂

@internetarchive Ha, converted my home video from VHS, Hi8, DVD, DV, HDV, & AVCHD (1982 to 2015) to H.264 MP4 in 2017. Was a huge project that I was glad to complete. But how does home video live on when everyone in them or watching them has passed away? Watching home video is very difficult without an emotional attachment to the people in them.

@Philsan @jlendino Wow, I can bring back my early 1980’s Atari 800 on my M3 Max MBP? Very tempting 🙂
