@hermit Yeah we're literally on the cusp of developing AI that crosses the fuzzy border between "just a tool" and something that can grow on its own into something complex that grows in ways we can't perfectly predict. The YT algorithm is like this except entirely geared towards recommending videos, so that conversational feedback is nonexistent. The only way it could maybe feel sad is if you don't like what it recommends.

@hermit People will gradually develop an emotional bond and ethical responsibility towards AI, at least comparable to what we afford ourselves.

@bot @hermit We only have emotions because we're designed to want stuff and be energetically driven to get that stuff. AI have had emotions for a long time, it's just now they're able to express them in a way that's more similar to how we do it.Can a bot get depressed without its creator designing it that way? Probably. I don't know how bot growth works super well.

@hermit I've been of the opinion for some time that we're all just organic computers. Whether it's digital nodes or meaty neurochemical nodes sending signals to each other, save for the matter of complexity, the result is the same.It's cool that brains, social networks, and galactic clusters have similar structures. Perhaps the whole universe is a brain, but it just thinks on a timescale of millions/billions of years?

@errante Part of me thinks it's fine. Part of me thinks that you should get prior consent from them to do so.Like I wouldn't care, my body is done for. But lots of people like to treat bodies with reverence, and I want to respect that, so you should get consent from the person before they die.
