One thing I actually really appreciate about the last few years, dealing with trolls and assholes on the subject of COVID: I've learned that my "ADHD-enhanced" intuition is actually REALLY good, so long as I listen to myself (that part is hard). I've also developed some ability to detect bad-faith bullshit, which was previously non-existent.In a lot of ways, this trial-by-fire has conferred a new kind of confidence in myself that I never thought possible before.So... Thank you, I guess, COVID (you asshole)?#ADHD #CovidIsNotOver

I think things are starting to crumble pretty rapidly now, honestly.I get this impression that a lot of things are falling apart and the scotch tape they put over the seams isn't doing it anymore. Everybody is sick, nobody is getting work done, corporations have blatantly taken over our governments, all the charities are running out of money... Things are grim. Maybe I'm wrong. It just FEELS a lot worse than last year. Like the facade is starting to fall away, but nobody cares.#CovidIsNotOver #ButOrganizedSocietyIs

If someone tries to weaponize a relationship to get you to do something, such as abandon COVID protections, then it's not about COVID protections AT ALL. It's about power. It's about reestablishing dominance in a one-sided relationship because you dared to finally set a boundary, and that boundary challenges their authority. It's about maintaining control over you. These people don't want an equal relationship. They want you submissive. These people are making your life a lot harder than you realize.Run.1/2

If you are a people pleaser or you grew up with a narcissistic parent or parent with some other personality disorder, or if you are neurodivergent, you probably have a lot of "friends" like this. You're the one with the reputation for being nice. You don't rock the boat. You help people out.No matter what you do for others, though, you're always also a "bad person" or a "selfish person".You will lose a lot of "friends" when you start setting boundaries. They will tell you that you're an awful person. They'll go for the jugular. They will scream and pound the floor with their fists because, for them, nothing is worse than losing control. You are better off without them, but the road is hard. It will get easier.2/2

Sometimes, I get these moments where I can step back for a second and look at what's going on these days and FULLY appreciate how fucking unhinged the entire world has become. Like, this is actually batshit and I don't know how we're coping.Good on us, though, I guess?#CovidIsNotOver

@Tarheel I don't think we really have evidence that long COVID isn't universal. All we know is that some people are symptomatic relatively soon after their infection. With many persistent viruses, you have fast progressors, medium progressors, and slow progressors. Lots of damage can be asymptomatic for a long long time, and then you die.@justyourluck @Greengordon @trendless @novid

Is being an artist for a living REALLY a sentence to forever-poverty? I'm curious to know what others' experiences are like.#MastoArt

@DeniseGutzmer but, it's from COVID. COVID hasn't waned, unless "waned" means "become substantially worse in aggregate", now.

I live in a sparsely-populated area so I don't often need to mask outside but we always carry N95s with us, including respirators for the kids.Kids get injured. It happens. I never want to be in a situation where we have to enter a hospital without proper respirators on hand.

"Choosing" not to wear a mask in public communicates that you believe your comfort is more valuable than the lives and health of others.#BringBackMasks #CovidIsNotOver

My brother tried to tell me Stats Canada was manipulating the numbers to make COVID look worse than it is, so I spammed him with studies. If nothing else, he probably won't try that again.

Needless to say, my brother didn't want to talk about COVID after he brought it up and I responded with studies. 🤷

On COVID-19 Personality Disorder:"Suppose COVID-19 produces a lasting COVID-19 personality disorder due to anatomical damage of the orbitofrontal cortex created by SARS-CoV-2 infection. In that case, those segments of the population that shun public health interventions and aggressively seek to stop general health measures may be entering into a vicious cycle of decline. As repeated infections occur, damage to the brain increases, resulting in decreased emotional control and increased aggression."https://www.infectioncontroltoday.com/view/covid-19-traffic-accidents-covid-19-personality-disorder-caused-viral-damage-prefrontal-cortex-

@tiskaan @3kh0 @yogthos "kinda complicit" is not an accurate description at all. Try "architects of" or "main perpetrators" or "puppeteers".

@Linux_in_a_Bit I think this is probably happening everywhere. We had a massive wave of retirements everywhere in the last few years and "leaders" never developed a succession plan to accommodate for this. Nobody knows what the fuck they're doing anymore. Add to that the fact that most people are at least marginally brain-damaged from SARS at this point, and you have a multi-faceted recipe for an existential crisis at the societal level. Good luck everyone! We've been abandoned.

I'll never forget that feeling from the beginning of the pandemic that a better world was possible. People had a moment to breathe and they started making changes. They quit their jobs, left toxic relationships, moved cities or left the city, relearned forgotten skills from generations past, and started to question their institutionally approved goals and values. It scared the shit out of people in power, which is why they have been weaponizing our emotions and breaking and hardening our hearts ever since. We have an instinct to protect the community and the system has been trying to degrade that instinct for decades with sophisticated propaganda, but the good side of people is still there. We just need a pause. The good part of us is battered and bruised, but not yet dead. I don't think people forget. I think they've seen that something is wrong and that we could do better. I think there's still hope.
