The recent reporting on #Mastodon being empty by people who barely even tried to follow any people is disingenuous. I have a *way* more lively feed here on Mastodon, while following less than a half of the people I follow on #Twitter.

Months ago I committed to never judge the number of posts in my timeline until I had the same exact number of follows I had on Twitter. Turns out I didn't need that many to have a similar number of posts in my home feed here.

@zleap unsure. I read of someone who created an account, followed 20 users and then wrote a piece on how empty it felt. There’s a lot of positive reporting too, but there’s been a streak of negative articles last week which felt like a lot of journalists were simply jumping on a bandwagon to shit on it, to be quite honest.

People with mental health issues deal with a couple of full-time jobs on top of any other job they have to do every single day. #OCD maintenance and treatment takes almost the entirety of my energy, every single day#mentalHealth

Trust me when I say that when you start following a lot of people your mastodon experiences changes completely. Every website feels empty at first! But mastodon especially, requires a little tiny bit more of curation. It’s worth the effort 💜

Since we are all speaking about #depression and enthusiastically praising folks for reaching out: the last times I reached out to family saying I was depressed, they scoffed at me and said “get over it”, so maybe we need to fix this capitalistic hell where being ill is considered something “wrong” with you, and also work on our bias on what mental illness is – and actually care for others, not just in the ways that clean our conscience momentarily. We need community.
