I feel like the combination of Tumblr refugee types and quarantine has created a death spiral of bad takes on Twitter. Just people of all stripes creating and reacting to the most harebrained ideas they can think of.

@Demosthenes I think there's a bit of that. I think a lot of it is just people spending too much online now, and a lot of it is just because a lot of these people are just dumb kids. When I made bad forum posts as a 16 year old, journalists didn't mock me in front of 20k people for it lol

Problem with TikTok is that all of the memes there are actively bad. Can't even watch twerk videos without some weird half joke delivered by a robo call voice. Disappointing stuff.

Vine was great because it didn't give you enough rope to hang your own joke with. This is also why the original 180 character limit for tweets was so good and why threading is annoying.

@kai @sean it's kind of weird to me because it's so aggressive. I watched a TikTok of somebody going mudding, something I don't really have much interest in, and half my feed is mudding for like a week after that. It seems like it really just wants to sort you into a niche as fast as it possibly can more than anything else.
