If you live in California and haven't gotten your ballot for the November 4th special election call your elections office. My husband got his ballot a week ago. Mine never arrived.I called today and was told that I had changed my address. No I didn't. I have been registered with the same address for 35 years.Tomorrow, I will have to go to the elections office, in person, to complete an affidavit and cast a provisional ballot.HmmmmPlease boost.#California #Prop50

Decorating the tree was quite the project. After we got all the lights on the tree the middle section went dark. The new lights didn't match the old lights so we started over. Six hours and five workers later we finished. Our very ancient tree top disintegrated. We decided going without a top was good enough. Making the gingerbread houses is rescheduled for the weekend. We did have great fun. It was clear that the kids needed this continuity of family tradition and the joy of Christmas together another year. We don't give gifts so making something beautiful to ooh and awe over is our gift to each other.

Thirty six years ago. My husband who wasn't that then invited me to dinner with his friends at a private club. Dress was formal. Short of borrowing one of my daughter's prom dresses I had nothing to wear. I didn't want to embarrass myself or him.At the time I was a buyer for a small chain of department stores. I went to the Jessica McClintock showroom while I was at the Los Angeles market and asked if they had anything I could buy off of their sample rack. This dress had just sold out so the sample was pulled off display. It fit perfectly like it was designed for me. The best part was that they gave it to me as a gift.I felt like Cinderella.Unfortunately my husband's friends liked to entertain each other by being casually cruel. They even asked me if I rented my clothes. It was an awful evening.Afterwards my husband gave those friends the boot. He did manage to stay my prince charming though. My happy ending Christmas story.

Finally home. While my husband has been sick I've been trying to live with a tooth ache. More specifically an infection that had something to do with my bridge. Salt water rinses weren't helping. Today, I stood in line for a same day emergency appointment at my dentist. The triage process put me at the front of the line. Ninety minutes later I was in the chair for dental surgery. It seems that years ago a sharp shard of bone was left behind during another dental surgery and it decided to try and escape. The dentist couldn't believe I could maintain my calm but I don't see how anything else would have helped. Now the pesky shard has been removed and I have antibiotics. I can't tell you how thankful I am for these people and their kindness to me.After the holidays I will bake for them. I told Summer that I am worn out. This is the afternoon view from our deck. She says we should curl up for a nap. Good idea

Today I told my daughter that way back when I had high hopes that the advent of the Internet would be a good thing. We would all have information at our fingertips and humans would use their powers for good.Well, I was spectacularly wrong. It didn't really take very long to go sideways.I never felt a hankering to join any of the famous social media giants. Somehow, on the advice from grandkids, I ended up here. Mastodon is different. Thank goodness. There is real helpful information here just for the asking.Kindness and acceptance abound.I am more thankful than my words can describe. So when you toot that photo of your pet, garden, hobby or whatever makes you happy. It probably makes someone like me smile too. Mastodon is an unexpected and much appreciated bridge between people of goodwill.Summer says dogs and cats of goodwill too. Can't forget Summer. Lots of love to our Mastodon friends.A winter rose from our garden.

What a day in the life of a grandma. We have a new stove. My husband has different new antibiotic and I made it to the pharmacy before they closed early. My housework didn't get done. I still need a shower. My dental infection is better but still there. Yet.The three of us are finally sitting down and relaxing together. We are good. The most important things got done.I stopped on my way back from town to look at the Eel River. Lots of fast moving water.

I think I'd better start saving for new whiskey half barrels for my garden. They are growing all by themselves. Nothing dries out anymore.

We saw a bit of color at sunset. Summer was hoping for a calm view. She has been feeling anxious since the new stove moved in. Unfortunately it makes popping noises as it cools down. She jumps up and runs over to bark every time. I try to explain that the stove is acclimating and that eventually the noises will diminish. She can hardly believe this is happening right after she accepted that the refrigerator sounds different from our old one. I try to be understanding but quiet will need to prevail in the end. I told her that we can work on it together. We shook a paw on it.

Today is our anniversary. An excuse to celebrate the day we had a weak moment and tied the knot at a cheesy chapel in Reno. We had been an item for many years.I'm not sure what inspired us but one morning at breakfast my husband said we should get married today. I said I didn't pack for a wedding. He said he knew that I could find my way around a department store. Hours later I was married for the last time. So today we revisit that spontaneous event and evaluate the outcome. Was it a good idea? I think it worked out. I hope he thinks so too. Summer says hell yes it was a good idea! Now can we go to the beach?Summer is always right.

And so the sun set on our twentieth anniversary. Our lobster dinner was perfect. We worked on it together as sort of our gift to each other. One after dinner slow dance later we are ready to tackle another year.It is hard to express my gratitude to whoever or whatever decides our destiny. I know finding a life partner who shares my likes, dislikes and convictions isn't a given but especially in today's world it is a blessing to find all of those things in one old dude. Looking forward to year twenty one and next year's dinner and dance.

Sunset time. Friday's are always anxious for us because health issues that pop up on weekends are much harder to navigate. I have to ask all the questions even though I likely know the answers. It is easy, as the caregiver, to take over and make assumptions but I promise to keep asking so I can listen carefully for the things my husband doesn't really want to share because he doesn't want to be too much trouble. A warm and cozy companion tonight Summer and I watched the sky color up and the fog roll in while she was exuding calm and serenity. We did have a a bit of business to consider. It is the end of the month when we look at our budget to see what is left to give to those in need. There is so much need. Summer always has preferred recipients. We split our small dollars this month between Redwood Pet Rescue and the Meals on Wheels Pet food program who provide for senior's pets while delivering meals. Time to rest up to protest tomorrow.
