#Poll time! I want to know what licence you mostly use for your F(L)OSS projects. Imagine, you don't have to comply with anyone, and you're free to choose. Which one you'll use?I am also interested, which traits of a licence are important to you. Stating changes? Using the same licence? Attribution?(Licences sorted from strongest to weakest. A poll can only have 4 choices, so some had to be aggregated; I tried to put the similar ones together)

Anyone having problems with PyPI today? The site works flawlessly, but the packages take ages to install. Pip takes 2 minutes for what earlier happened in 10 seconds. Poetry hangs completely :(

Weird: this happens on my laptop only. When I do it on my phone, it shows a different, expected result: 5 hops through my ISP 🤔

Any recommendations for a PDF viewer for Windows? Preferably open-source, of course, but to be honest with you I'm ready to use anything that isn't Adobe Reader 🤮

Why aren't there any open-source antiviruses? There is ClamAV, which is barely used, and isn't that good to begin with.Is it because the attackers can easily bypass the security of the code is in the open? Or is it because the market is already oversaturated? Is there even a reason to try and make an open-source antivirus, that can compete with big players like Avira, Kaspersky, and others?

When GitHub was acquired by Microsoft, people started to look for a freer alternative. Self-hosting is usually the best choice, but those who can't afford it switched mostly to Sourcehut or Codeberg. But why was GitLab never really mentioned? It's open-source, has a plethora of great features, is independent, can mirror to GitHub, has an incredible CI/CD infrastructure... I personally find it way better. Is there something I don't know or understand?

@werwolf don't confuse GitLab with its (optional) underlying Kubernetes infrastructure. Their actual recommended parameters are a 4-core CPU and 4 GB of RAM.As for the sources install, I find the official guide to be, while huge, easy to follow: https://docs.gitlab.com/ee/install/installation.htmlBut yeah, JavaScript and Cloudflare are questionable things...

A problem that I have with self-hosting Git — lack of federation.I can host a Mastodon instance and my posts would be seen elsewhere on the global timeline. But host a Git server — and now you're cut away from the rest of the world. People need to create accounts to contribute, the project will not hard to discover. Even I, a relatively tech-savvy person, hate it, when the development is concentrated on some in-house server — that's why I could never imagine contributing to, say, GNU projects.

I have set up SPF with DMARC as well as DKIM. I have never sent suspicious emails. I even add OpenPGP signing to my emails. SpamAssassin and GMail filters seem to not have any problems, when I check it with external tools. Yet still, my emails keep landing in spam folders of people unless they specifically add me to their contacts. What could be the reason? Do email clients/servers not like email from custom domains? Or is it just because my email server is in Russia? 🙄

Alright, I've been advised (thx @kev and @0xedd1e)and to set up a PTR record for reverse DNS. Folks who use custom domain e-mails managed by others (Gmail, Mailbox.org, etc.): How do you do that? Do you contact the company? Do they do that automatically for you?

@mike having never heard the English version, I tried to imagine how it's sung. So I played the melody in my head, hummed "nine and ninety red balloons", and was ok with the outcome.Took me a day to realise that that's not how numbers in English work 😅 Now I want to hear the English version because the title doesn't make any sense to me

@Hawk1291 Eloston's Ungoogled Chromium, for its lightest and purest experience. Simple Chromium still calls home to Google, Brave is questionable with the crypto shenanigans AND not blocking Facebook out of the box, and Vivaldi is IMHO too bloated with options, which for other people may be of great use though.Ungoogled Chromium + uBlock Origin + HTTPS Everywhere is my daily driver for a long time now, and it still works faster than Firefox for me
