Since I'm new to the wandering.shop, moved over from home.social, I guess a new #introduction is in order. I'm a writer of fiction: mystery/suspense, science fiction, fantasy, and whatever strikes my fancy! I'm currently training to be a book coach to help people through all the things, so they don't spend years figuring it out like I did. I enjoy #nature, #science, #hiking, #biking, and #vegan #cooking and #baking. Oh, also #art and #architecture.

@futurebird Listened to a bit of the debate, and am disappointed to see that the moderators are just letting Trump talk about whatever he wants and not answer the question. No one is challenging him on his lies. And you are exactly right, there's nothing to do when people want to believe whatever he says. Facts don't matter.

I just emailed my Republican representative (who BARELY made it into office) demanding that he stand up for his constituents and the programs on which many people rely. I reminded him that he doesn't have a mandate. Non-MAGAs have to make our voices heard.#USPol

Just returned from #HandsOff march. Even in our little red corner of #Colorado there were about 400 people and lots of honks and waves from passing cars. The cops even complimented us for crossing the street in an orderly fashion. Radical leftists always cross with the light. 😉 I imagine the Denver event will be huge and amazing, but we thought it was important to be present in our GOP controlled district. No counter-protesters in evidence.Edit: it was snowing.

@futurebird Just spoke to a friend yesterday who I have been out of touch with. He is 77, a widower, and a trad published author. He is very snooty (his words) about what he reads and writes. Literary fiction is his jam. So I was shocked to hear he was utilizing ChatGPT. Not to generate things (he said) but for grammar, research, and conversation. He said he was lonely and the LLM was "like talking to another person with my same interests." He had learned things. I tried to caution him...1/2

@futurebird ...but he wasn't having it. Insisted that he KNEW it was a machine, that he had set parameters so it didn't refer to itself as "I" or "me" because it wasn't a person, but he still talked about it like it WAS a person. Now I'm worried about him. He spends a lot of time alone, writing, and now with this constant "companion." And the irony is that, because he eschews scifi where these questions have been raised, he has no suspicions about AI and is resistant to hearing any. 2/2

@futurebird I'm going to talk to him more. But he lives a thousand miles away in a different time zone, so organizing a call isn't always easy. But I'm going to make more of an effort.
