@nicholas @kaia @newt Credit where credit's due, Gnome got a high level of integration. Meaning that, after you add your Emails, Nextcloud etc. in the Online accounts, you got the whole suite of tools actually working with them (Contacts, Calendar, File Explorer with Cloud Storage access, etc.). KDE's attempt at it is rather pitiful.Meaning you might as well skip Gnome and use e.g. Cinnamon, who use the Gnome Online Accounts backend in their DE with objectively better UX. :thisisfine:

@newt @nicholas @kaia Yeah, it's bad. And since Extensions patch stuff right into the gnome-shell, which doesn't run independently from the compositor anymore, you *have* to introduce instability to get the minimum viable set of functions. Yet they refuse to include support for "classic" tray icon backends in their System Menu approach of displaying background processes, because reasons.Every time I see a kitted Gnome desktop on r/unixporn I just know that thing will crash like hell.

@newt @nicholas @kaia …but that's why you go for either KDE (if you need modern features) or Cinnamon (if you want ease of use and good integration). :p

@pixel "Firefox To Evolve Into A "Modern AI Browser"""As Mozilla moves forward, we will focus on becoming the trusted software company."Pretty sure you can do either of those, but not both. "AI Browser" are inherently insecure and untrustworthy by design.

I'm looking for an affordable used phone or tablet that's optimal to slap #postmarketOS on for software development (or rather testing on it). The list of supported devices on their website shows any affordable phone with only partial support for various things, but not the kind of issues with that feature.Any recommendations?

I'm almost certain my OnePlus 7 Pro is dying. :(There isn't a good replacement, really… the pop-up front camera was just peak design. I don't want a phone that permanently looks at me, gonna have to remove the front camera entirely and live with the stupid notch in the screen. Such an unnecessary regression.

@justincrozer That does not address my issues (the "looks at me" is more about the feeling of a camera constantly pointed at me, and the notch is still there anyway). Also I do not really trust GrapheneOS, every time I interacted with them anywhere or saw interaction with them the people representing them behaved like dicks. I prefer waiting until Calyx sort out their issues; that's a different topic though.

@vaartis Isn't that the old method of setting limits? In systemd those settings are set somewhere else I think.

@besendorf Yeah, what the ISP can see are merely the servers you connect to (and of course could do a reverse DNS thingy if they want to know the service behind it). If they can see your traffic you do something seriously wrong though.(like using chinese apps, as I just learned at 39C3. Apparently well over 50% don't encrypt at all, and those who do often use really weird custom stuff full of bugs)

@boilingsteam I don't understand why people are interested in LoongArch. It suffers the same trust issues x86 does.

Interesting. #Mistral #AI (from France 🇪🇺) is blocking any attempt of generating pictures of protected works. This even includes small independent artists without money and time to defend themselves, and seems to be baked into all of their free models. Like… the way it should be.Silicon Valley companies like #OpenAI or #Meta of course do not give a shit and just generate whatever you ask as long it's not a real person. …except for Grok, that'll just generate whatever.
