@shacker Hunting is one of those weird paradoxes where hunters end up being some of the strongest forces behind wildlife conversation. The American hunters were the ones that started the conversation movement there in the early 1900s. Hunting tourism is a big cash flow for many African preserves, without which they'd struggle for enough funding to keep the preserve going. It's a total bitch, you want to save the animals and sometimes the only way to do that is to let people shoot a few.:/

@grammargirl Does the audience typically realize that an anti-hero is not to be admired or do they more often idolize a low quality human because they're the protagonist?

@failedLyndonLaRouchite @twipped I mean, humans aren't purely logical. A lot of men just don't care about women's health issues to the point where they can't even think in terms of greed, and I say this as a dude.

@mambearpnw @augieray They're just two different viruses? It's like asking what the difference between a bear and a monkey is. They're both mammals, they're very different.https://www.cdc.gov/flu/symptoms/flu-vs-covid19.htmhttps://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/coronavirus/in-depth/coronavirus-vs-flu/art-20490339The flu has been around longer, so the people most likely to die from it have mostly all died, whereas COVID is newer so it's still killing off the people who react poorly in one way or another.Plus COVID has a bunch of secondary long term effects that the flu doesn't have.

What an Owl Knows by Jennifer AckermanFrom an elf owl that can fit in your hand, to a fish owl the size of a fire hydrant, these birds are more diverse and charismatic than you ever knew before. Are they instinctive hunters? Do they have to learn how to hunt? Yes! Do they sleep in trees, do they sleep in burrows? Yes! Are they thriving, are they endangered? Yes, yes, yes. There's so much to learn and so little time, might as well start now!#BookReview #Nonfiction #NonfictionNovember #Birds

The Soul of an Octopus by Sy MontgomeryI can think of no better title for this book. Sy dives into the personality and lives of octopuses. They clearly have souls, perhaps multiple souls; they play, they dream, and everything in between. This book is well worth your time, come meet the people who live under the sea.#Books #BookReview #Nonfiction #Ocean #Octopus #MarineBiology #Sea #Aquarium #Wildlife #Animals #Cephalopods #Mollusks

@siege I used to live in Illinois, where tornadoes are relatively common, though less common than places like Oklahoma. I moved to Ohio and learned that, while tornadoes are less common here, they are more deadly than in Illinois. Why? Because they tend to turn up in the late afternoon or evening in Illinois, but that same storm system will arrive in Ohio at 2 am, when everyone is asleep.
