Nearly 3,500 years old, Egyptians carved this 21 meter tall obelisk out of red granite for Thutmose III to erect in Heliopolis. The Hellenistic Greek ruler, Cleopatra, relocated it to Alexandria 1,400 years later to adorn a temple built in Caesarium by a far younger global power, the Roman Empire. 1,800 years after that, an even younger global power, the U.S.A., transported the obelisk to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The Morgan #Library in the Murray Hill neighborhood of #NYC contains an amazing trove of #books, #art, and sheet #music. Although I visited for the #architecture, I especially loved learning about Belle da Costa Greene, the #AfricanAmerican #woman who, as J.P. Morgan’s personal librarian, built the collection. #photography

My experiment shooting #film with a #Nikonos continues with me using faster film at low tide with the same rock from the earlier post. I hate waiting for the film to be processed, but value being more deliberate with my shots. I have also had to think about ISO in ways I never did with digital #photography (but probably should have). #BelieveInFilm #BlackAndWhite #Connecticut #IGotARock

@Jaycee@zirk.us Sadly, I had the Nikonos loaded with B&W. We’ll see if I was able to catch any of the sky drama. So far that has proven to be a particular challenge for me. I took the phone shot in case the roll comes back “meh.”

I remember once learning about the Second Law of Thermodynamics. Comets hurtling through space? No. It's glacial ice and swirling sea foam on a black sand beach. One photo shows a wave receding, the other a wave crashing in.
