I'm buying a travel trailer next week. It comes with a 100W solar panel and two propane bottles for off grid camping. A few things I'm looking into:LiFePo4 BatteryTravel Wifi (might use my Mango)Battery Monitor (ESP8266 Tasmota)Temperature sensor (maybe ZigBee?)Home Assistant (with ZigBee?) on Pi3Upgrading 12V outlets w/ car sockets and maybe USB-PD outlets Other good news: Doesn't come with a TV! I hate those things. Any advice for me? Not new to trailers.

@pyre35 I'm sorry to hear that. I hope this message is the start of your fight against it. I love technology, like the rest of us, but I've seen online games negatively impact a quite a few of my friends kids and I just can't say it's a good thing. The addiction level is too high, I suppose.

@Gina I'm always complaining about how bedrooms are too big. Must not be true where you are living.

@pyre35 That's one of my favorite living situations. In college I rented a furnished apartment and everything I owned fit in my car. There is something amazing about that lifestyle. I also had shared laundry. I often would go to the laundry mat because there would always be open washers. Heck, I've even done that when my dryer broke and I was waiting for parts. Where else can you do 10 loads in 2 hours?

@Gina 210 sq-m house with 15% of that space the master bedroom which you spend almost no waking time in. I'd rather have a den or an office.

@Gina I'm jealous. My dream is around 100 sq-m with an out building as an office and workshop all on a 2,000 sq-m property in the woods.

I found a solution to the most annoying thing in my life: auto start stop. I believe it killed my battery and will likely kill my starter. I can disable it but you need to do it every time you start the car. $60 and I won't have to again. I can save more fuel and emissions by driving like a rational human than this will ever do.

@urusan That's a fantastic question! I don't have a single thing in my life that I am sentimental about. I have had two things that were important to my dad that I had. I have since given them back to him for various reasons. I wonder why I haven't felt sentimental. I've lived in 17 homes, 2 states, and 7 cities. I feel like someone who has had that much change would grasp onto something that is constant. But no....

Another question: What are the top 3 phones you have owned? Thanks to @dajbelshaw for the laptop question. Phones have been more important to me as I've always had a desktop computer. For me:1) Nokia 3390 - The cases/covers2) OnePlus One - Used w/ Cyanogen mod forever3) Samsung Epic 4g - Physical keyboard, extended battery and Cyanogenmod.

Previously, my Lemur Pro always thought it was on AC power. Regardless of the distro/OS. I bought a new battery per @system76 recommendation. Same behavior. Bummer.

@system76 The OS doesn't recognize that it is on battery power. Nothing changes when plugged in. Battery does charge over USB-C and with the stock power adapter. The power led lights up when plugged in and off as well. The battery connectors on the Mobo aren't bent or broken and appear soldered. This happened after disconnecting and reconnecting the battery to ensure coffee didn't get into the touchpad after a spill.I'm familiar with phone and laptop repair, and am an electrical engineer.

@system76 That would be my assumption as well. I'm assuming power is getting to Vcc, but the data connection to the BMS isn't being established. Is there any way for me to get a schematic to help troubleshoot?

The trailer came pre-wired for a special $300+ router/LTE modem. Instead I bought a $35 router, wired it to the 12V supply. The router runs OpenWRT and can connect like a travel router. The Pi is running Armbian with Kodi and some offline kids movies. It will also run Mosquito MQTT and send the environment data back to Home Assistant at home. Including:Temperature inside/outBattery Level

@pyre35 You haven't missed anything. I'm torn about posting because I know it's a luxury item. It's actually small and cheap for a trailer. I just have friends of different economic positions (and in countries without opportunity) and try to be sensitive to that. It will used for taking the family "camping" and a place to stay when guests visit. I might use it to work in at some point as well. I like the idea of trailer living but for us it isn't happening.

@pyre35 I met a man traveling Central America who really helped me see the value in simple living and dangers of materialism. He has the nicest most well behaved kids too, I believe, as a result. He was not resentful about the things he could not have, but was thankful for the time he had with his family. Rather than moving into a trailer, we have a 2-3 year plan to move to Central/South America.

@pyre35 @kev Are you sure you aren't conflating social media with chat apps? I didn't read Kevs article, yet, but it seems societal downturns are more appropriately linked to social media.
