part of getting older has been realizing both how much and how little the setting of a friendship matters to the friendship. Yes, it matters when, where and how you get to know someone. But also, you can’t go allowing the feelings of good relationships to color your view of institutions. People make friends everywhere, that doesn’t mean those places deserve credit for the friendships, or are somehow integral to them.
