       @lauren @pieist @amerika Unless there are replies I can’t see, I don’t believe anyone here said the government cause the commercialization of the internet. The government built it and then commercial entities added on their own equipment and became gatekeepers. Each of us can own our own server and BE part of the internet.  That’s the beauty of Mastodon and other decentralized systems.

       @rbreich Let’s hope that Musk’s recent blunders wake people up to what you’re saying.  The idea of a decentralized social network never entered my mind until joining Mastodon and learning (a little) what it’s about and how it works.  Maybe people will want to expand this way of thinking into other areas.

       @guner_ I’ve only been here a few weeks.  I’m enjoying it and meeting great people, but this freaks me out. Maybe I should delete my account and open an anonymous one.The problem with anonymity, for me, is that I’ve made real friends through social media.  I’ve traveled with people I met online and had them stay in my home. It stinks that we often can’t have nice things. 😞Note: I’m aware of my privilege online. I know men are less likely to be victims of abuse and stalking.
