Found some time to properly set up my profile today so time for a proper #introduction:Hi, I'm Mika 👋 public transport enthusiast since the age of 6, and nothing changed about it since.I study #transport #engineering with a focus on logistics systems and operation of city public transport. Obviously I also love #railtravel.Besides university, I also- develop virtual trains for train simulators as part of the "Central Europe Development Group" #gamedev- rediscover amazing #music for you on hobbyist #webradio station SimLiveRadio #DJ- do occasional voice acting for public announcement system type roles. So far only for various games, but happy to expand that in the future if the chance arises- maintain and play with a partially quite old fleet of 12V DC #modeltrains - Part of German #Bahnbubble -Hope to meet some cool people here

Yes app-based 2FA is more secure but also more likely to lock you out entirely.Its great for banking where I can reset it by showing up in person with my ID card, but for socials the insecurity of SMS is a big part of its convenience. Order a new sim card, pop in new phone, go.Its still an effective method for stopping brute force and dictionary attacks which is the main attack vector that a nobody persons social media account will face.

@tendstofortytwo tbh as mainly a Windows user... I just want my taskbar to remain as is. I don't know who MS appeals to with changes to it, but everytime MS changes something on the task bar first I do is go to taskbar settings and turn it back to behave like Win 7.And when I use a GUI Linux I also just want a good old Win XP or 7 style taskbar 😅

Hello nerds!Does a Laptop with these specs exist on the market?- lightweight- screen <= 14"- able to run a Ubuntu derrivate- keyboard that has a windows/super/command key- RAM >= 8 GB- possiby ARM-based(?)- price < 700€I'm basically looking for the Macbook form-factor for a usecase thats mostly web apps and at a more reasonable price.

Watching a series and the characters are having a "first date" and its in a fancy restaurant wearing fancy clothes and meanwhile my preferred dates are likeHave a chat while- riding public transport together- walking through a parkand if that was a positive experience go to someones home, get comfortable on sofa or bed, talk about whatever and slowly move closer to one another if it continues to be a positive experienceI don't get cis hetero dates at all tbh

One of the takeaways of being a tram driver is that the worst group of drivers on the road in cities aren't taxis. Neither is it three handymen in a company van (yes they are worse than taxis)No, the worst group of drivers to top them all are food delivery in VW Up or electric microcars.Whenever you see someone in a car branded pizza delivery, prepare for a completely absurd swerve across multiple oncoming lanes to enter a property on the other side of the road, executed without slowing down and with no respect for anyone else on the road.Hell sometimes they come out of a property to your right, cross the road and enter another on your left. Its truly bizarre sometimes.

Another group of drivers that frequently annoys me are the parking snails 🐌 They want to get into a parking spot. But they themselves know that, they do not want to tell anyone else and have zero spatial awareness.Better drivers looking for a spot put their indicators on immediately. Everyone can see they are searching and will stop when they reached a suitable parking spot.Some others also fully accelerate if they're at the front of a pack to build distance for when they need to stop for their parking spot. Both are fine.The snails 🐌 on the other hand?No indicators and 50% acceleration, followed by them slamming on their brakes when they're next to a spot because their vision only goes 10 meters in front of them. They don't know who is behind them either. If you need to drastically slow down in a tram or truck because they slammed on their brakes so you honk/ring the bell they get scared and move on.If you accelerate your car more slowly than the tram or truck behind you can, you're doing something wrong!

Today in tech: Trying to get multiple months worth of photos from an Android Phone onto a computer running macOS.On Windows this is easy: grab a USB cable, plug phone into computer, open two explorer windows, select the files you want, wait 20 or so minutes because the underlying protocol is slow as heck but you can do something else in the meantime and it'll complete the task unattended.But on macOS it can't be that simple of course.- to even interface with an Android device running Android 4.4 or up (that was over a decade ago!) from macOS you need a third party file manager called OpenMTP. OpenMTP is a lot less stable than Windows explorer and crucially it cannot select multiple files sequencially. Thats right: a file manager that can only either transfer a whole folder or single files, no in-between! Whole folder ain't an option, that is around 2000 images and that is a tough ask for Windows Explorer already so this free software instantly freezes on it.But nearDrop works very well to wirelessly transfer from Android to macOS, and its much faster at that! So away with the USB cable lets try that and uhh...- Total Commander on Android can select files from a folder automatically based on naming rules, cool, but haha of course it ain't that easy, Total Commander has no option to send anything to the share dialogue! Your only option is Bluetooth and as we all know, Apple blocks bluetooth for incoming files.- Xiaomi file manager can send any file on the system via quickshare/nearbyshare but cannot select a lot of files at once- Xiaomi photos app cannot select a lot of files at once- Google Photos app can select a whole month in one click but of course it isn't so simple because of an arbitrary restriction, it does not want to send more than 200 photos at once via quickshare/nearbyshare. If the month has more than 200 photos then sorry you can't send it.So what is the solution then?1. Select files in Total Commander2. Pack them into a zip in total commander3. select the zip in Xiaomi file manager to share via quickshare to macOS4. move the zip file to where you want the photos and unpack with FinderJEEEEZUS CHRIST WHY ARE THE INVOLVED PROGRAMMERS SO INCOMPETENT?
