@kairyssdal Working — tech writer — at the Morton Thiokol plant in Utah. Watching, along with hundreds of others who’d worked on it directly—or indirectly. And got blamed for it — when the failure was entirely due to *completely8 political decisions over the repeated objections of engineering management.I remember people weeping in the halls.Bean counters and politicians made that decision, and people died.

@Teri_Kanefield Sort of how justice caught up with Capone. Not for murder, etc, etc, etc—but for tax evasion. Some things are just easier to prove; more B&W.

@jennycohn Sadly, he’s right that hate is more effective than love at motivating people. And that outrage fuels voting more than anything else.

@kairyssdal People need meaning. Which we usually misunderstand. They -p we — need to be making meaning. And that can mean a lot of things. But people for whom life loses the ability for them to make meaning —to be meaningful, find a way to die.I watched my grandmother do it. She might have made other choices and had plenty to do and live for. But she in some way chose not to go those ways, and lost any meaning in life. And so a woman who’d whipped cancer TWICE just curled up and faded out.

@StillIRise1963 Yes, yes, the Dems are inadequate. But they’re not aggressively and maliciously monstrous. And no, a third party has no chance of winning at this time and place. And *monstrous* is the price of trying. This isn’t complex, FFS.

@Heather ALL electoral democracy systems have serious-to-severe dysfunctionality. It’s not the democracy side, it’s the dynamics and realities of election systems.

@heideroosje @doctorcdf When the Spanish Fascists forbade Pete Seeger from singing multiple songs on his play list at a venue there, he complied. He went out, told people that he’d been forbidden to sing those songs. So he did not sing them, but *played* them, and observed that the police had not said that the people could sing them. And the audience did.Same energy.(Same fascism.)

@futurebird Comply only as slowly as possible and while doing as much damage (oopsie!) as possible.

@futurebird You can practice malicious incompetence. All while superficially complying.I *absolutely* affirm refusing to do it, but if you are pretty sure that they’ll just get someone else to do it, or you’re really trapped and can’t afford to refuse (and quit/be fired), then become incompetent.Slow. Make stupid errors. Especially ones that cause damage and/or are hard to undo. Build on top of fundamental errors. Sabotage. Delay. Obfuscate. Be a cunning little non-compliant weasel.
