We’re also taught that nothing we do online is private, which is true but they’re teaching it in a way that makes surveillance seem completely normal. It’s so annoying being forced to use proprietary software when the free software alternatives are significantly better and aren’t trying to exploit you.

@fsf I’ve attempted multiple times to get friends and family over to free software or open source software but there’s a problem. None of them really care about if the software they use is free software or proprietary software. I’ve tried to explain the flaws with proprietary software (abuse of users specifically) and I’ve even had some friends defend it. It’s really unfortunate to see that privacy, free software/open source etc. isn’t a social norm and convenience is favored

@fsf The article Mentions Gnu Icecat but I can’t find a version of it that’s up to date, is there a mirror that contains Gnu icecat that’s based off of a recent version of Firefox?

@fsf Happy Birthday GNU! While I was not alive when the GNU project started in 1983 it’s still crazy to think how long the FreeSoftwareFoundation has been around. The fsf has done so much to help me and several others transition from proprietary software to free software alternatives that respect the user. Here’s to 40 years and many more years to come!

@BrodieOnLinux Gnome and Wayland on nvidia (RTX 2060 if it’s a specific problem with my GPU) isn’t a very good experience so I’m sticking to Xorg until I get a new computer

@endDRM It’s such a lazy excuse to have drm. The people that drm is trying to stop are also the people that weren’t going to pay for said product anyways, all the drm is doing is just delaying the inevitable

@endDRM I don’t understand why DRM exists at this point. All it really does it just slow down the people that weren’t going to pay for said service anyways while punishing paying customers. If a company really wanted to minimize piracy how about make paying for the service more convenient than piracy while respecting the user at the same time.

@BrodieOnLinux C++ is a mixed bag for me. The abstractions it provides is really nice; I can just use the stdlib and it works without having to worry about safety as much (and the convenience). On the other hand some features make it miserable to read and try to understand what some code is actually supposed to do. I typically use C++ over C but mostly just write C with some of the C++ features to get the best of both languages. :c_language: :cpp_language:
