Really enjoyable early beach portable morning on 17m #FT8 and some good DX on 15m #SSB - including Rob, ZL4RMF - who greeted me in Welsh - with 'only' my hamstick antenna and 40W PEP; the path was simultaneous and fairly equal long and short path. Interesting to look at advertising for a new Kia Picanto. The 12V outlet seems to think it can handle 180W. Not difficult to get a new 12V line into a car, but it would be nice not to bother, if the existing wiring can handle it. Any thoughts?

Non-radio, but it makes for a change. Just four shots from 460 feet below ground this morning, where it was nice and warm and absolutely, stunningly quiet. Apart from when small bits of rock move, all by themselves...😮

I've brought forward, by popular demand, GB1GLC (Marconi, Carnarvon, 1923-), so that it will activate for the first time on International Marconi Day (22/4/23) - an 'array centenary'. Provided the weather is reasonable, I'll be transmitting from the base of Mast 11 (background, right and modern image) at 5W (mostly digital), and/or <25W from the car adjacent to the antenna site. @shaman Cool! I was just reading last night about the stork found in Germany (alive, before it was shot there!) with an African arrow in its neck. This solved the long-running arguments about where birds went in winter. Previously, they were variously thought to fly to the moon (in 60 days at 200km/h!) or sleep under water.

So, come on: give me your thoughts, please! Last summer, I found a wire diving into the ground next to one of the elevated VLF counterpoise bases at Marconi, Carnarvon. I didn't make much progress chasing it last year. But this morning, I got to the bottom of it: it's attached to a galvanized steel sheet earthing plate that surrounds the base. There's another one I've seen, too.I presume it was just grounding the tower, which was itself insulated from the elevated counterpoise wiring?
