Republicans saying they’re “tough on crime” mostly means Black young men and teens. That’s what the word “crime” means to GOP politicians. Since Black people still suffer from the impact of tropes and prejudice going back centuries, it’s an easy way for GOP political leaders to garner support without offering any prescriptions. Not one offers any solutions to poorer schools and other poverty fighting ideas. Basically they want to revoke bail, allow more George Floyd-like abuse without repercussions and widespread racial profiling. The “crime” metaphor also gives a path for non-Black minorities to distance themselves from Black people as a way to gain more assimilation into the broader culture. It is what it is.

@TonyStark @TheBatman If Republicans were really honest about what they want to do, nobody would vote for them except the tiny white 1% they are out to empower. So they’re all fine to let Putin propaganda fly. #VoteBlue

Good read.“Since research has found that low-income people, minorities, and mothers are more likely to take part in Black Friday sales than other groups, they bear the brunt of this criticism, a combination of classism, racism, and sexism.”Why criticism of Black Friday shoppers is wrong -https://www.vox.com/the-goods/2018/11/20/18103890/black-friday-shopping-coverage-classism-racism

I'm so pleased that the United States is renaming military bases that were named after those that were committing sedition in the defense of genocide and exploitation. Civil War history was so wildly distorted by those that would perpetuate racism.https://www.nytimes.com/2022/12/02/us/politics/army-base-names-south-confederates.html?unlocked_article_code=S8NSeixfVHdlrH0GY_5FICyrcFuiTb2gfKszvKbTBnjoXWd61n50HlW-yxwY6Pid7KAVxQv2IEHfgIdA3zn-Dp-LsGCWisBF9EmeqJHtPQSc4T6BEa4Q2kY3jfyLLGLmmBvEkdrZ3ghp4oUtYvvGhRzG6YNgdSDlhr3eJTfInyHHJKjXCBGXl4eWkqHu-Hr3kElF_BXoZ1OtoTT_PVdx5Rdmq_SerTnMnoONXeF_6cyH3o_7twWPxqX0U5povkmm4Ji8ZN0r22CAVIiOEgYn0stajp534YXGvYdyvmVKn6x52pkFMkA-m3oj8hZnBzWQbHQMK9xZnfM9PxhZozAt_HFAkXPGWjRmhpOaZbCegdyQ&smid=share-url

This is your regular reminder that elections matter and that voting practically is a way to be helpful. This will take a long time to fix and it’s a lot easier to prevent. There are courts beyond the SCOTUS that impact our daily lives and the ability to get justice in this country. How the Fifth Circuit became the Trumpiest court in America-https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2022/12/27/23496264/supreme-court-fifth-circuit-trump-court-immigration-housing-sexual-harrassment

@TonyStark How many years have Republicans been whining about immigration? How many immigration bills have they produced? How many times have Republicans reached across the aisle in an effort to write comprehensive immigration legislation?

@TonyStark McCarthy & the GOP will rue the day he became Speaker. The extremists on the right aren't finished. They're just beginning. They will make McCarthy's life a total nightmare. McCarthy stands for nothing & he's traded away his ability to stand for anything. He will be a weakest speaker ever of a weak majority whose contribution (besides an appetite for chaos) will be limited to obstruction & performance art. The speaker position has now been devalued, demoted & become ceremonial for McCarthy. The most crucial concession by McCarthy was his willingness to restore what is known as the “motion to vacate the chair,” a procedure that allows rank-and-file members to ask for a vote to remove the speaker. Odds are we'll see that vote in a few months. They’re a party of windbags & bullies, content to see the country fail instead of working together for the good of the country.

@TonyStark Of course that’s what Republicans want. Poor people will work for less money that way. Hope the Republican voters who apparently are relying on the ACA are paying attention.

@TheRealBozoTClown @TonyStark No question. They only want good things for the top top and nobody else. Yet the people they take things from who vote for them mistakenly think they’re one tax cut from being in the 1%. The Republican Party has a real investment in never letting those people get there.
