Having walked across town from Saint Andrew Square to the Meadows, taking photos in the spring light and shadows, it's time for a seat, ale and a read of Malcolm Devlin's Engines Beneath Us, coming in June from Influx Press#books #livres #AmReading #bookstodon #MalcolmDevlin #horror #EnginesBeneathUs #InfluxPress #HorrorBooks

Heading home after very long photo walk around town, using green man crossing, two cyclists (not the delivery ones, for a change) decide to start moving through. I shout and point at the red light, one replies "but we're only going slowly through it". Oh, well, that's fine then. Presumably it would also be fine if a driver drove slowly through the red light and green man and knocked them over? Grrrr

@peterbrown yeah, getting a lot of that, same reckless arrogance as many drivers. Ironically you just know some of these same idiots probably complain (legitimately) about drivers ignoring the Highway Code & endangering them

"I dreamt of the dragon""I have awakened him. Cannot you see, all around you, the dragon's breath?"This evening's viewing: revisiting one of my all-time favourites, Boorman's Excalibur, which succeeds where other Arthur fulms fail, because it embraces the myth.#film #films #movies #BritishFilm #Excalibur #KingArthur #myth #mythology #1980sFilm

@michaelmeckler I love that you can hear "Uisge beatha" among the Charm of Making, the Water of Life, which is still a Gaelic name for single malt whisky to this day!The film is full of contradictions like that - it's the Dark Ages, but they have medieval plate armour and castles. Boorman said when faced with accuracy or playing to the myth, he chose the mythic every time. And he was right

@masayuki60 we're still enjoying a run of nice weather - mild rather than warm, though, but gorgeous, golden spring sunlight. Walked miles across the city in it yesterday taking photos.Downside is couple of rural parts of Scotland have had wildfires, because the undergrowth is so dry. I'm sure rain will return soon enough - it is Scotland, after all!

As part of the new cycleway and remodelled park at Dalry, the overgrowth has been pruned back, revealing the old platform, next to what is now the Approach Road (which follows the former railway line, that terminated in what is now the posh Caledonian Hotel on Princes Street). A little ghost of local history...#History #Histoire #photography #photographie #Edinburgh #Edimbourg #railway #CheminDeFer #railroad #RailwayStation #Gare #Dalry

Israel seizing the aid yacht Greta is on, in international waters. I'm not a maritime law expert, but isn't that basically piracy? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/clyg5x15n3zt?post=asset%3Af12cb23d-86f2-4516-8a43-9f95cf499ae4#post

I notice the BBC's piece on the Starmer's cabinet reshuffle bringing Douglas Alexander back into the fold as London's Viceroy in Scotland (or Scottish Secretary, as they call it), manages to somehow not mention either the allegations around his time at UNICEF nor his part in the MP's expenses scandal. Poor journalism or deliberate choice to just happily ignore these parts of his past, one wonders?
