@ajroach42 It's not the internet business model. At best, it's the for-profit internet business model.

@futurebird I don't really understand how you can do this except by learning to code ?I understand that "learning to code" is often taught in a way that is indeed similar to teaching calculus as you write, but my opinion (and little experience) is that it certainly can be taught as a liberal art.

@futurebird I agree, but isn't it also the way they'll learn most of the rest ?

@futurebird The (not many, I reckon) children I taught Scratch were delighted and empowered. Those I see learning Scratch in school treat it as a chore.I'm not sure that Scratch/learning to code is at fault there.@isotopp

@futurebird Thanks for this perspective, it's the first time that I hear it - I always had 100% enthusiasm when I asked children whether they wanted to learn to make games.(sure, I only ever addressed volunteers)What entry point do you use if this particular one is closed, then ?@isotopp

@futurebird Absolutely not math, but Olivier Véron made a full lesson plan with Minetest (year-long for his 1st year of high school students, IIRC).And one good enough that after a few years of unrecognized labor, he was promoted to an inspector role (I haven't followed his achievements since that, though, and he's now too busy to post a lot).

@futurebird Not sure that can qualify as a CS teacher (I only taught a few informal classes, mostly Scratch) but as a user I can relate. There is some existential dread in having your basic tools not working without warning.A bit like physicists in the three-body problem start despairing when physics starts to behave in an unpredictable way.I have this when I work on Arduino and a thingy doesn't work as it should.1/?

@futurebird There's a famous anecdote about Yachar Kemal, the uber-famous turkish author : one day when he was visiting the countryside, a shepherd¹ asked what was all the ruckus.Another villager answered "you don't know ? the guy who wrote 'Memed, my hawk' is here, he's visiting !".And the shepherd was completely puzzled :"but... nobody wrote 'Memed, my hawk' ?" (in the sense of "it exists, it hasn't been created, and especially not by a mere human").¹IIRC
