At someone’s recommendation (sorry, don’t remember who/where), I tried the Metatext, the open-source iOS “Mastodon client.” It mostly works fine with Chud Buds, but it basically has the same limitations as the Mastodon FE: no quote-reposts (posts which I guess were supposed to be quote-reposts look like picture related), the only reaction you can drop is a star, etc. Still, the whole experience is smoother and faster than the web interface, in the way that native applications always are smoother and faster than “web apps.” I’ll probably stick with it for now when I’m mobilefriending, but it’d be great to find an iOS app some day which has all the features of Soapbox and friends.(Important note: I usually mobilefriend while on the toilet)

Hi, friends. Long time no see. Did anyone miss me? I actually kind of hope not and that I successfully disappeared into the static to some degree, but every now and then I still get notifications from this site, so I guess I am still being noticed occasionally. So here’s an explanation for my absence.While traveling to see family for Thanksgiving, I had a come-to-Jesus moment. Possibly literally; still trying to figure that part out yet. And suddenly spending hours a day gossiping about lolcows and men with voice changers on the Internet didn’t seem as important as helping my family and those around me, and myself. I started making plans to move back to my hometown and take care of my parents as they age and my nieces and nephews as they grow (hoping to complete the move this month but who knows), and I started attending weekly church services again.Granted, some cow things still bubble to the surface in the circles I’m still in and I can’t help but go back to the Farms and catch up a little, like with the recent interspecies marriage. But I’ve learned to do this with more discipline; I set a fifteen-minute timer on my phone, and as soon as it goes off, I go back to the real world. It’s tough. It’s clear that this drama stuff has been a drug for my problems for a long time and I’m still addicted, but it was just that - a drug, not a cure. I’m still not sure if what I want to do now will be a cure either, but I really feel in my heart that it’s worth a try.This isn’t to shame anyone else. You all continue to live your lives as you see fit. But getting out of all of this feels like the right decision for this man at this time.Well, my timer’s about to go off, so… goodbye and take care.
