@Glastomichelle 45 minutes? Does that make it the blue hour? The lilac is lovely!

@AndyHarrison a lot of the world could do with a dose of that, including Australia and it’s #BlackBirding in the 1800s.

@Penelope if they don’t have the nerve to go cold turkey, at the very least the #abc, #bbc and others should be exploring other platforms to ease their transition. I suspect that in the future, organisations that support the platforms of mad billionaires will be seen as accomplices.

@UROCKlive1 the bloke obviously doesn’t know geeks if he was betting that he could make dodgy data public.

@FerdiMagellan the timing would suggest otherwise. I was surprised at the mountain of evidence that #murdoch had that it knew and lied that appeared in the discovery process and wondered how it would relate to the Crickey case. Now we know.

@itnewsbot is there enough uranium to make expanding nuclear power worthwhile? I’ve seen reports that there is only 50 years of uranium in Australia if we went hell for leather. What is the true position if the world went after nuclear fission expansion?

@itnewsbot #ai will probably be the key to solving the #fusion problem. AI and #MachineLearning are good at working through models and designs.

@KimPerales based on the Covid response, politics will determine whether you are more likely to have respiratory distress or not.

@GrrlScientist time to remove the #fossilfuel subsidies as they obviously don’t need them and invest the savings in #renewableenergy .

@publius @GrrlScientist maybe if we started seriously dealing with decarbonisation 20 years ago nuclear would help a lot. Where we are today, deploying #renewables will get us further than if we switch to #nuclearpower and loose time while that ramps up over a couple of decades. Given the nature of the crisis and the inaction and difficulty in implementing reforms needed to cut emissions we probably will eventually need to do both. We can deploy renewables much more easily today as the workforce isn’t as high tech and we have mass production manufacturing lined up.

@publius @GrrlScientist still, if we were to swap to nuclear instead of renewables, as you seem to suggest, it would take too long to ramp up and we would be even further behind. If nuclear has a place then it needs to be an additional player due to the lead times and the lack of a nuclear workforce in much of the world.

@publius @GrrlScientist so you are using my arguments in reverse. We could have doubled down on nuclear power anytime in the last few decades but didn’t as the risks were perceived to be high (we have new ones of warfare and political instability), the projects hugely expensive, subject to massive delays and more expensive than coal. Renewables have been able to replace coal as they contribute more that 30% of the mix and the share continues to grow.

@publius @GrrlScientist you seem to be making this an either or situation. Renewables are reducing co2 emissions and so does nuclear power. It seems that we don’t have time for this partisan, my technology is better than yours. We need as much clean power generation as we can get.

@itnewsbot it’s a good bet that SMNRs will never be more that a niche player due to insufficient size to be operationally cost effective.

@Nonilex republicans appear to be more corrupt than the Democrats however the Democrats don’t have what it takes to deal with the take no prisoners republicans. Getting rid of some of the old fossils may help.
