@grammargirl the USA is ranked 16th globally when measured against the criteria for a well-developed public education system. I recall years ago a US student joining our Univerity course from a reputable American university. He was supposedly one of the brightest. He was like a fish out of water and would have struggled in a 10th grade class at our schools.

@stux not just you. You give folk refuge you establish what skills they have, you support them to use these skills to 1. Give them dignity 2. Help the economy. You find a way to help those still stuck in camps or dodging bullets and get them out of the clutches of traffickers. How hard is that? If every developed country worked in tandem everyone would benefit - those needing help and countries needing workers. The lack of humanity rages me

@Miro_Collas @palestine utterly deranged. Having a fit screaming if you don’t give us what we want we’ll do it anyway and make things worse. What is wrong with these people?

@fkamiah17 it is a country where the youth are pro eu and have little appetite for welcoming Russians into their country, but the older and elderly age groups still hark back to Soviet times. Like Serbia the Gov is very pro Russian. I nearly choked last week when the US said it was "deeply troubled" by the treatment of protesters and called for an independent investigation into reports of "harassment and physical assault". Does the US Gov not have any self awareness?

@stux @GottaLaff we moved to the US from Scotland back in the 80s. Had a good life, but we then decided to start a family and thought no way are we bringing kids up here and moved back to Scotland before settling in Norway. Now retired and back in Scotland.

@Miriamm love it. Been lots of feisty woman around. Mary Barbour in SW Glasgow is famous for standing up to landlords in 1915 who were trying to evict women and children while their husbands fought in the Great War. A rebel of her time.

@andrewducker too simple. I was canvassing on the doorstep and many who vote SNP and are ardent pro Indy told us they had to vote Labour to ensure the Tories were destroyed. That ties in with the poll that says 50% of the Labour vote was only to get rid of the Tories. Given Labour’s vote share is only 33% or 20% of those eligible to vote and SNP vote share only fell by 5% during our peak holidays, no one should be trying to read into any of these numbers because they’ll come up with 2+2 =5.

@MikeImBack most of Irans facilities are underground - described as being about three floors below ground. Iran has around 18 nuclear sites and a major research centre.

@Wen if the Police submit this to COFPS I’d be very surprised if they took forward. What guidance has the Home Office issued as it’s causing confusion everywhere. This heavy handed policing is costing millions across the U.K. and all for nothing.

@petealexharris it’s a bit more than diplomacy. One hand says ignore him and tell him to get stuffed, but the other hand knows he has the powers to cripple our respective country’s economically and disable our US made weapons. A destroyed economy with little way to defend itself is really not the way to go. What the U.K. and EU should be taking from this Presidency is that they should be trying to divest from the USA as much as possible and from what I’ve read they are starting to do so.

@petealexharris US GDP is about 1.53 times bigger than the EU's. It’s even greater than the combined GDP of the EU and UK. Europe (not just EU) is very vulnerable to US economic warfare and policies. Trump has weaponised the financial dominance of the US, using its control over global financial infrastructure. Europe’s reliance on US financial institutions is near-total. JPMorgan dominate wholesale banking with US investment firms managing vast portions of European capital. Trump can cripple us
