@futurebird the whole myth of independence needs to get blasted into the face of the sun.Humans survived only because of interdependence, cooperation and community. That was true in our anthropological past and is still true.

We're visiting dear friends in the Portland, OR area. They have 11 y.o. twins who are video game fans & I made these hats for them. A total hit! And they each asked for a pompom on top.Retro games for the win!@knitting #knitting

Incoming rant.Stop using AI/LLM tools. Just stop. Especially if you're using them as a lark. I'm going to be my most judgemental self here. If you post something that's generated by a LLM, (you know, ChatGPT, Gemini, etc) I will assume:You don't give a shit about stealing from artists/writers.You don't give a shit about the earth burning up.You don't give a shit about clean, drinkable water. You don't give a shit about people & their creative work.#NoAI

@susankayequinn I released my 9th novel in February. Sales are deader than dead. I have heard from other authors that I'm not alone. And I know people are scared. Hell, I'm scared. So I don't blame anyone for not buying books/art/music. But here's the link for LITANY FOR A BROKEN WORLD in case someone wants to read about found family creating hope from loss. And a telepathic dog. http://www.ljcohen.net/litany.html

Last evening, I got to be part of the artists preview of all the decorated cows in the Old Sturbridge Village's Cow Parade event! 25 full sized cows & 3 babies each decorated by a different artist. They were all fabulous! My knitted cow sweater was a huge hit! They put it in the visitors center! The cows will be on display from June 21st through September 28th.#fediart#CowParade#knitting

@futurebird Yes. And yes. Litany for a Broken World has 3 braided storylines with 9 POV characters. It was a bear to write. Ultimately, working the threads separately - at least until they naturally came together again - was the only way I finished it. Where it got tricky was when the storylines started converging. Lots of flowcharts. Why can't my muse come up with a simple story structure. :sob: I'm halfway through the sequel & it's definitely easier. Keep going!

@futurebird one more critical suggestion: a trusted crit reader or three who can tell you any places where they were confused or bored is incredibly valuable.

@futurebird I also found that reading each story thread separately, as it's own novelette helped me find where to weave the other story threads back in.It also might help to tag each scene with which thread it belongs to, even if you strip it out later.

@futurebird @gbargoud I lived in cities in my 20s & 30s. I calculated that I could rent a car every single weekend & it would still be cheaper & easier than owning one. I loved my public transit & walking life. Then I moved to the suburbs. Being carless wasn't an option. I bitched about it all the time. Now I live in a small rural town where there's no public transportation at all. Ironically, I drive a lot less b/c I'm retired, kids are grown, & I have my writing & clay studio all at the farm.

@futurebird my father was a child during the Depression. He was extremely leery of debt since his family lost everything overnight. His 3 financial rules have guided me my whole life:1. Pay yourself 1st (e.g. save)2. Don't buy on credit unless you can pay it off in full3. Translate a price tag into how many hours of work it costs as a way to assess something's valueBut none of this would have made much of a difference without my family's help paying for college & having no debt.

@futurebird @flamecat The work of being human is hard & takes so much vulnerability. And our society sees vulnerability & interdependence as weakness. It's no wonder chat bots have been wedged into the spaces where real relationships (with partners, friends, communities) once lived. When will we understand that kindness & empathy is how civilizations not only survive but thrive?

@futurebird Thank you for this. I needed to read it. I'm struggling to stay motivated with the draft of the sequel to the book I released last February. Book 1 has sold so few copies. And I know that numbers decrease the further into a series you go. But the people who have read it - it's meaningful & important to them. It's important to me to tell this whole arc of story well. To give the characters their truth. So I keep going. Word by word.
