He probably had to draw through a sneezeguard. Up to this point in retrospect I get the sense he was crying the entire way through making it.#Manga

The last thing I felt this way about was The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet by #DavidMitchell. Or reading Paul the Apostle's writing. I don't know if I've played any #VideoGames where someone achieved this. It's not sentiment that's here, it's pure soul, the heights and depths. Every dimension and a regard for spirit. The thing IS spirit for all its soul. Soul committed to spirit. The combination of Final Fantasy VII and Remake occurs to me. Neither alone but together.#Manga #Berserk

#Dune nearly qualifies but it's soul committed to soul. It's pessimistic. Even #Berserk is looking on the bright side.

Same thread but breaking out of CW. I've been talking about hope a lot, thinking about it a lot. And it occurs to me, what's the deal with holding writers who write about hopelessness in high regard? Thinkers in general. "It's all the pits." Mm yes *clap.* What's that serve? What is that satisfying? We do seem somehow satisfied, but in what way? Toward what? We want to solve problems. There are problems. Isn't it possible that if we have a hopeless attitude we just haven't thought it through?

I've also started thinking about hope vs. faith vs. belief. They're different concepts for a reason, I think possibly often confused with each other popularly. But they are different, and so it may be worth differentiating them and forming solid concepts of each. Just throwing that out there.

Confusing hope with faith and/or belief, and being for some reason opposed to faith, may have something to do with our hopelessness.

That boost said, these are secular concepts too, hope and faith and belief. I'm not trying to indoctrinate anyone to anything.

Or can we only have hope if we have a religious attitude? I honestly don't know, that's only now occurring to me. But if hope apart from religion seems unthinkable then that's interesting.

And it's probably worth differentiating between having hope and knowing that there's technically a chance.

Faith may be proceeding as if the hope is already realized. Belief may come into play when we have to admit that such a thing is worth the effort.

Which brings me back to Berserk. Guts thinks he can win this fight. He believes it. He wears a brand that reminds him it's hopeless. He proceeds on faith, knowing against knowing that he can succeed.#Berserk #Manga

His hope is implicit in his actions which he takes on faith. And he doesn't just think he can succeed, he knows that he will. Thinking he can succeed and proceeding would be hope. Knowing that he will succeed and proceeding is his faith. His belief. Something about mechanics, the way it works. Believing that our intention and attitude matters toward the objective. He's obstinate, resolute. That may come from belief in something. A reason that it matters.#Manga #Berserk

It can sound like every story out there. But we're supposed to learn from stories in this way. Great stories tell the truth and this sort of thing is what that means to me.

If we can't take stories seriously in this way, how can we take ourselves seriously? Our stories? Seriously as opposed to tragically. When it comes to facing the bad stuff.

We might have even come up with some ideas about how to talk to each other about it, by seeing what didn't work in the stories.

That's the thing I think about reading books again 20 years later. We've learned the lessons that we didn't have the inclination to heed on first reading. So we see the genius of Melville in retrospect.

Or in my case the genius of the writers of the New Testament. But as I understand it a lot of people didn't get down with Moby Dick at first. I wasn't assigned it and so I did.
