I know that politics, religion, and current events are usually everybody's favorite discussions these days, but for this server let's try to focus on the positive things out there and use Content Warnings and hashtags when applicable to make it easy for people to filter out the stuff they're trying to get away from.I don't mind people talking about divisive or heavy topics, but for the really negative stuff let's give people the option to not see it here.Thanks! 🤗 #MindlySocial

If you only use your social media accounts to repost awful news articles about awful people doing awful things, you're missing out on a great opportunity here to finally be happy and there's probably a good chance you're shouting into the void because you've been blocked/muted.You have the chance to be happy on a social network for once, don't let the bad things in the world ruin it for you.Talk, interact, socialize... you don't need to be a bot for the news corporations.

@stux I ended up having to shutdown my PeerTube instance because I had nothing but trouble using object storage with it, when I kept everything local things worked fine but after moving to block storage I would get random upload and playback errors daily. I spent a few months trying to figure it out without any luck so if you figure out any tips or tricks, please let us know. 🙂

If you are a #MastodonAdmin for a multi-user instance, you owe it to your users to not blindly trust centralized #FediBlock lists/directories.I've seen at least half a dozen created in the past 2 months and while they might be useful, do your own research first before deciding which instances to block.Also, for the sake of your users, avoid automated blocking systems/tools.Happy admining and block responsibly! 👍

If you're moving between Mastodon servers: ‼️ DO NOT DELETE YOUR OLD ACCOUNT UNTIL ALL OF YOUR FOLLOWERS ARE SYNCED UP ‼️ This can take a while since it needs to reach out to every follower on every server, so it does this in small batches. If you delete your account before it completes, you'll lose whatever followers have not synced up yet.Additionally, you can export your follows/followers list (and other lists) in your account Preferences. Import options are limited though.#FediTips

@stux The "workaround" apparently is if you get all of your friends to report your gamer tag as offensive Microsoft will force you to change it to something else letting you change it for free.

Dear #WebAdmin and #SysAdmin out there, is there a service/platform similar to #Cloudflare but without the caching portion?Mostly looking for the DNS, DDoS/WAF/security, and analytics features.Since moving my CDN to its own domain I have a lot more freedom with my primary domains so looking for other options now.(Free/cheap is preferable, not looking for enterprise solutions.)

@dansup Wasn't there mention of an easier way to install PixelFed? Every time I go to setup a server I go to the documentation and it looks very intimidating even for a seasoned admin because of how the document seemingly scrolls forever.

This might be the weirdest post I'll ever put out there so brace yourselves.I was raised Catholic but am currently an #atheist so as somebody who doesn't believe there's a higher being out there, I find myself wanting to pray as a method of putting good energy out there for friends and family but not having a destination seems very wrong for me. Is there something I can pray to that isn't a deity of some sort? Like a general concept or idea or something?Very weird I know, it's 1AM. 😆

Currently the cheapest I've been able to host a private Mastodon instance for in a public cloud is just under $10/month before the domain, but I know I can do it for cheaper if I just put some thought into it.For self-hosting at home, it looks like it'll be about a $70 investment all said and done (excluding the cost of electricity which would be just shy of $5/year for me).
