#introduction Howdy y'all! Excited to see what this platform is all about. I'm not the most tech-literate but have an interest in open-source projects and how they might lead us to a dignified and more human future. I use #calyxOS on a pixel 4a 5G and run #Pop!OS on a laptop. Here to learn!

About halfway through "The Age of Surveillance Capitalism". It has been extremely interesting so far, but I can't stop thinking about how we are supposed to convey this message in an approachable manner for others without coming across as alarmist conspiracy theorists. Not everyone is going to read a 500+ page book on the topic, how do we inform them without bring written off in fear? #surveillancecapitalism

@person surveillance extends beyond the online, though. Attempting to isolate ourselves away from it is a losing battle. By ignoring it, we are resigning ourselves to the mindset of inevitability that surveillance capitalist firms have thrived in.

@amerika Zuboff is pretty damn clear that surveillance capitalism's rise was made possible in part by neoliberal policies. I think you're confused about what leftism is

I've learned a ton since joining Fosstodon. First time I feel like I can say that about a social media platform (unless you count youtube). Keep being awesome!

@Linux4Everyone I could definitely live without tweaks. Cosmic took me a few hours to get used to, but it feels natural now.

Picked up a new #hobby this year. I've had my dad's old #guitar for years, and never really learned to play it. Last year, I learned that when he was young, he had played #mandolin with his brother and father. I also learned his old mandolin was still around, in my uncle's hands. He happily gave it to me this past December, and I don't think a day has gone by that I haven't picked it up since.

I love this thing! Learning to play also renewed my interest in guitar, which I've also decided to pick up since then. While learning to play, I found that I was really interested in stringed instruments in general. They're fascinating!I started learning about what goes into making instruments at a professional level, which led to learning about the rich history of people making them at home. Of course, this peaked my interest.

That's where one of my other hobbies came in! I decided I'd try my hand at #3Dprinting my first homemade instrument. I found a really cool travel #ukulele design that I decided would work great for me. I love this thing, it is funky and weird, and the last thing I'd expect to find in a store; perfect for printing. And made one for myself (blue), and another for my roommate (white/brown). For his, I stuck with the standard uke tuning, for mine, I kept with the weird theme and tuned to GDAE.
