@phildini 1. A good friend joined mastodon and he's not open to any other online communication, 2. Had to switch my twitter to professional use 3. Just kind of missed the vibe. I still miss the early shop days a bit, when everyone talked about their tea, but it's still a nice friendly space to hang out, and those are so rare on the internet these days.

@nindokag it means that some of all of am animal isn't producing the usual coloring. In this case, it was a mostly white skunk but still had some black.

Today I did something really scary. I wrote to one of our editors to explain why a book that we're publishing about disability has real problems. This meant being upfront about my own disabilities, but also trying to position myself as rational and informed on the issues beyond my personal experience.

It was hard, and I was anxious about it, even though the editors here are thoughtful people, because normally identifying myself as disabled gets one of two responses: either I get waved off as not really counting, or what I say gets dismissed because it's personal, and thus irrelevant.

This time I got back a positive response (we're still probably publishing the book, but at least the editor is now aware of some of the issues and seems to be taking them seriously) which was really encouraging! But I'm still coming down off the adrenaline.

@nindokag I'm so upset on behalf of my great-godkitten. I think that you can try pushing back against the teachers and see if you can get them to take the issue more seriously. And if that fails, look into other schools. I know that preschools are really hard to get into sometimes, but sometimes the only thing you can do is get away.

Ithaca has a place called First Dam, which is a very pretty waterfall next to a crumbling building. It's easy to reach, right by the road.

It also has a place called Second Dam, which might even be prettier. You have to hike to it, but it's a pretty gentle hike, except at the end.

Today I discovered that there is in fact a secret Third Dam. It is exceedingly beautiful, but the hike is long, muddy, and genuinely dangerous in places. I don't recommend it unless you're a much more experienced hiker than I am. Also it's technically trespassing.
