I'll participate in #RPGaDay2024! Here's the prompt list. I'll try to keep it all in one thread.

Day 1 - first RPG you bought this yearThat might have been the "solo but not alone" game bundle on itch.#solorpg #RPGaDay2024

Day 2 - most recently played RPG My last solo play was "the Magus", and in a group Worlds Without Number in a West Marches style sandbox. #RPGaDay2024

Day 3 - most often played RPGThat's easily "das schwarze Auge" (the dark eye), THE German ttrpg that was once designed as a local competitor to dungeons and dragons. It's a heroic rules-heavy fantasy game, but not as high fantasy as D&D, more like "fairytale fantasy". I've been GMing a monthly-ish group for five years or so now. Our current group just arrived in one of the iconic campaigns, maybe I'll retire them afterwards. That could take another couple of years though. #RPGADay2024 #ttrpg

Day 4 - RPG with great art I have a thing for psychedelic settings, and the Ultraviolet Grasslands immediately came to my mind when reading this prompt. The author Luka Rejec also did all the illustrations so it's a great work overall. #RPGADay2024 #ttrpg #UVGEdit: I just noticed that there's a bundle of holding about UVG running right now (12 days remaining)! https://bundleofholding.com/presents/UVGrasslands

Day 5 - RPG with great writing I chose Numenera Discovery for this one, which is the core rulebook of the Numenera system. The reason is two-fold: the text itself is written well and I remember learning a lot about GMing from that book's chapter on it. And then there's the marginalia throughout the pages that help immensely with scanning the book for the thing I want to look up. The publisher calls these "callouts" and here's a blog post on them: https://www.montecookgames.com/numenera-callouts-and-compatibility/#RPGADay2024 #ttrpg

Day 6 - RPG which is easy to useMausritter! I never did such a well flowing session with this little prep. The players knew next to nothing about the system in advance and we had lots of fun and great moments. Character generation is easy, the random tables yield good results, and the introductory location in the rulebook is great to learn the game and OSR in general. Big recommendation for the box set! #ttrpg #RPGaDay2024 #OSR

Oh I need to make a second post for today because I totally forgot about Prole! You need a coin, some paper, and a pencil and that's it. The intro location is a bit too open for my taste though, but I once found another cool location that I once prepped but that sits in my itch library which I can't access on my phone. Post a reply if you're interested, then I'll look it up the next time I boot up my PC.https://natetreme.itch.io/prole#RPGaDay2024 #ttrpg

Day 7 - RPG with "good form"For me, these are the works of Johan Nohr and especially Cy_Borg because I'm a sucker for tech and neon. It's chaotic, it's typography porn, and it's at the same time easy to find the stuff you're looking for and the rules are good to learn and teach. I love it. Day 8 - an accessory you appreciateWhen you GM heroic fantasy RPGs with lots of books, rules, and notes, the space behind the GM screen is scarce. A few years ago, I bought these little bowls and they're great for keeping some tokens, dice (my dice bag is huge!), and meeples at hand. They keep my notorious clutter at bay and don't take much space themselves. #RPGaDay2024 #ttrpg

Day 9 - an accessory you'd like to seeMore generative and semi-automatic map making tools! I love maps but I'm not great at designing them. Campaign Cartographer has a really steep learning curve and not much automation. When I discovered Canvas of Kings last week, I was completely in awe. I want tools like this for every flavor of RPG!https://store.steampowered.com/app/2498570/Canvas_of_Kings/#RPGADay2024 #ttrpg

10 - RPG you'd like to see on TVA psychedelic fever dream that is based on Troika! with Quentin Dupieux as a showrunner. I'd totally dig that but everyone else will probably be weirded out to the max haha#RPGADay2024 #ttrpg

11 - RPG with well supported one shots That would be the Borg family and especially Mörk Borg! I've seen so many cool one shots and locations made by fans and the publisher even created an official imprint (Mörk Borg cult) to publish selected fan works to download for free.#RPGaDay2024 #ttrpg

12 - RPG with well supported campaignsThe Dark Eye (das schwarze Auge) not only has a bunch of great campaigns where players take part in major events within the living history of the world, there's also a metric fuckton of source books on every region of the fictional continent complete with plot hooks and secrets. #RPGADay2024 #ttrpg

13 - evocative environmentsIt's Numenera again! The eight great civilizations that have risen and perished in this world leave a lot of interesting stuff that's "just there", remains of architecture, technology, or biology that invite the daring PCs with their feudal understanding of the world to explore. It can be a challenge for the DM to properly telegraph the difference between ambient and explorable environments because of the world's general weirdness.#RPGADay #ttrpg

I just finished playing "The Magus" by momatoes and woah, this game is huge and intense! It tears and tugs and isolates and corrupts, what a great experience! I filled 14 pages in narrow handwriting in my solo game journal. The rules were sometimes a bit too much for me, I found myself tangled up in counting events and missing the rolls but that didn't impact the story that much. If you're in for a rules-heavy journaling game, check it out! #soloRPG https://momatoes.itch.io/the-magus
