The guy famous for baselessly accusing someone he didn’t like of being a “pedo guy” just suspended an account from Twitter for doing the same to him.Elon Musk is a cowardly, hypocritical piece of shit.

"An Israeli military spokesman admitted Tuesday what was plainly obvious to witnesses of the mass destruction underway in the besieged Gaza Strip: that the goal of Israel’s ongoing bombing campaign is to inflict severe damage on the occupied territory, not to strictly target Hamas military installations.“'The emphasis is on damage and not on accuracy,' Israel Defense Forces official Daniel Hagari said, according to Haaretz." In other words collective reprisals against civilian populations -- the kind of war crime people were put on trial for at Nuremberg.https://ino.to/ki0tVcQ

From ergopraxis on Twitter: The Israeli state "warned" the total population of northern Gaza, a million people, to "leave" in a day or be murdered. This should evoke the imagery of the Armenian genocide, the burning of Smyrna, the ethnic cleansing of Bosnians and Albanians, of murderous forced marches. This is *exactly* the face of genocide. An army forcibly displacing masses of civilians with the threat of murder, and indiscriminantly killing anyone who lags behind, whether they wouldn't abandon their homes, were too young or too old to move, didn't have enough information. This is not an analogy. This is the most recognisable aspect of what genocide and ethnic cleansing has always looked like, these have been its precise means, in nearly every recorded historical instance of it. It's not an analogy.People running frantically away from a marching army (or air-force, insignificant), forgetting or abandoning their property, losing each other in the hurry, forgetting their children, dying on the road, being killed when they lag behind or can't go on. Israel is a fascist state.

Also, Israel covertly funded Hamas in its early days, because it saw them as a fundamentalist challenge to the secular PLO.And Hamas is an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood, which the U.S. backed a generation earlier as a fundamentalist challenger to Nasserism and Baathism."Before They Vowed to Annihilate Hamas, Israeli Officials Considered It an Asset" https://ino.to/ZB7pCZH

Elon Musk said Starlink would provide Internet connections to -- and ONLY to -- internationally recognized aid organizations in Gaza. In response, Israel cut off all ties to Musk and promised to fight the action. You really have to go some to be more evil than Elon, but here we are.

Someone on Bluesky named Helen Rosner added some nuance to the Palestine conflict. She pointed out that, while the foundation of Israel was indisputably by settlers, aimed at expelling and supplanting the indigenous population, and included large-scale atrocities, it's still overlooked that many of those settlers were refugees and displaced persons who were simply put on ships from Europe, or Mizrahim who were expelled from Baghdad and other places. In my opinion, there's simply no viable solution -- whether Two-State, One-State, or some kind of Buberist confederal No-State solution -- that ignores the basic fact that Jews born since 1948 can't be sent back to their ancestors' countries of origin.I don't mean to pontificate or to imply that there are any easy solutions. Obviously any settlement will have to include acknowledgement of the crimes against humanity involved in creating Israel, a cessation of ongoing harm, and reparations (including a full right of return and political self-determination). But it's an incredibly messy problem that can't be solved on the basis of simple slogans.

@bifouba @billiglarper @Aviva_Gary A lot of the "settlers peacefully acquired the land by purchase" narratives also ignore the fact that the land was purchased not from the inhabitants but from landlords, who evicted their tenant farmers. In that, it's a lot like right-"libertarian" charter city projects organized on former peasant land enclosed by coup regimes.

@Aviva_Gary @billiglarper And the very idea of an ethnonational state -- a "State of the X People," in which the Nation is defined in terms of an idealized, fictionalized version of the culture and dialect of one tiny region and then imposed on all the others -- which arose in revolutionary France and spread like wildfire, didn't help. For that matter, the whole manufactured idea of the Israeli "New Jew," and the resulting violent suppression of actual Jewish cultures like Yiddish, was also pretty perverse.

According to the rights group Euro-Med Monitor, Israel is waging an "extensive war of starvation" against Gaza’s civilian population.“Israel has deliberately focused its attacks over the past few hours on targeting electrical generators and solar energy units, on which commercial facilities and restaurants depend to maintain the minimum possible level of their work,” the group said in a statement published on Sunday.Euro-Med Monitor added that Israeli attacks have also targeted agricultural areas east of Gaza, flour stores and fishermen's boats, leaving no sources of food. https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/israel-palestine-war-gaza-residents-fear-starvation-thirst

The Only Democracy In The Middle East, everybody: Israeli Minister of Communications has begun the process of shutting down Israeli paper Haaretz for being “anti-patriotic” when it revealed that Israeli Helicopters were responsible for killing civilians on Oct. 7th. Many eye witness accounts confirmed this only days after Oct 7.https://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/2023-11-23/ty-article/israels-communications-minister-threatens-haaretz-suggests-penalizing-its-war-coverage/0000018b-fd0c-de73-a9bb-ffefb9f10000

@cstross @pleaseclap @notroot @exception Well, there's also the marketing technique of using non-excludable and non-monetizable goods as free advertising for those that are excludable and monetizable. E.g. allowing free reproduction of music as advertising for concert tickets and merchandise, or making money off the support and customization work for free software.

@notroot @cstross @pleaseclap @exception Yeah, your constant refrain of "you commies," "It's mine! Mine mine mine! You're StEaLiNG!" isn't spouting bumper sticker slogans at all. Simply continuing to beg the question at issue, by asserting that "it's mine and you're stealing it," is not engaging on the topic in an intelligent manner. If anything, your initial argument about incentive was a more intelligent attempt at discussing the pros and cons of copyright than your subsequent efforts, which degenerated into mindless repetitive assertions.
