Still trying to wrap my mind around the fact that the &^$% *Comstock Laws* are still on the books.Between that and the various state laws that went into effect when Dobbs reversed the ruling that declared them unconstitutional...How many other archaic laws are still out there waiting for someone to realize they can use them as a wedge?It's clearly not enough to just stop enforcing something for a century or so. You need to actually repeal it.

(Currently it's publish only, having grown out of the write.as/reply.as/snap.as set of one-thing-well websites, but they mentioned planning to integrate the capabilities going forward)

@objectinspace @atomicpoet @kissane @fediversenews Thats true to some extent. I've tried out both Calckey and Akkoma recently and they both have a lot of capabilities that Mastodon should learn from, and I'm seriously considering moving to a self-hosted GoToSocial solo instance once it's closer to complete (it's currently in alpha).At the same time, Mastodon is where the bulk of the attention & users are, which means it's got most of the inertia.

@objectinspace @atomicpoet @kissane @fediversenews That's basically what I think she was saying: lots of improvements/innovation on the other projects, but they don't get to the bulk of users until the people running the Mastodon project decide to incorporate them.

In theory, bigger organizations have more resources to secure their data.But smaller organizations also have smaller datasets to protect. When a giant conglomerate like this loses control of its data, it loses control of a LOT of data.(Compare it to the impact if it was only your local optometrist's customer list that was leaked. More personal, but a lot fewer people.)
