Apologies for the thinking aloudness of my posts today.Another reason to not say “trans women are women” is because of what the rest of the sentence would say;“Trans women are women who were born in the wrong body/assigned the wrong gender at birth/assigned the wrong sex at birth” is not a factual statement.“Trans women are men who feel intense discomfort with their own sex and so live and attempt to be recognised by society as if they were the opposite sex” is a factual, demonstrable, neutral statement.The only possible negative implication of the second statement is that it excludes those trans women who claim to not have dysphoria, and to be honest, I say fuck them, and so should trans activists, because they are literally just appropriating.

If I can tolerate being called “Keith” for 40 years, I don’t see how people using pronouns appropriate to your sex is upsetting.And the reason I haven’t changed my name? Because doing so would make me a bellend, because if there’s one thing more embarrassing than being called Keith, it’d be the cringe as I tried to coerce my friends and loved ones to call me something that I’d judged as being cooler

@MandyJane here’s exactly why - those men see “women” as “the group from which I choose potential fucks”, and dismissing some women from that group based on not being feminine enough feels dangerously close to being sexist. So if the reaction “urgh, she looks like a MAN” can be transmuted into “cool, he’s a man”, then an aspect of his sexism apparently disappears.At its heart is entitlement and seeing women only as potential partners (or for gay men, as those ruled out), I reckon. I’m not writing all that as if I don’t have a sexuality that is geared towards being attracted to a type Of femininity, but I have more female friends than male ones and I don’t value them as friends or people based on their femininity or otherwise.

Another thing Rowling has done; the responsibility for “hatred” is now diluted. These arseholes are losing their power - you can see it in the pathetic attempts to get Richard Osman to condemn Alexander Armstrong. Almost *any* of those celebrity signatories, had they stuck their head above the parapet pre-Rowling, would have either had to apologise and back down like Stephen King did, or face a horrific onslaught like Graham Linehan and later Jk Rowling did, but now it’s just diluted disappointment. And it’s gonna get easier and easier to talk, and the people demonised - Armstrong, Rowling, Robinson, Stoppard, Horowitz, are going to make it a harder and harder sell to convince us all that these people are evil.Hopefully with a bit of luck some people will have a little rethink and reassess whether maybe the writer of a much loved comedy ripping the piss out of authoritarian hierarchical structures might have had a point?

This is why not an inch of rights should be conceded. The GC argument should not be, IMO, that we don’t have a problem with surgically transitioned/those who pass, because then we’re on the back foot.The only relevance of “passing” should be that theres nothing in practice that we can do about those situations, and that by definition we won’t notice those who “pass” but that we need clear guidance on who has the legal right to be there, and that regular breaking of law is not licence to continue
