Interesting. The February spam bot attack mostly used open unmoderated/abandoned Instances. But this time, they're also setting up new Instances. (eg Kitsui.life Acat.world)#fediblock #spam

We've all seen the latest horrific images by now, and heard the testimonials. There are no more excuses, no more cover ups, no more reasons not to demand the end of Israel's extreme violence.Last night (their time), Israel set alight to tents that had been set up outside al-Aqsa hospital in Deir al-Balah. Inside these tents, Palestinian people who'd been displaced by Israel's constant attacks on Gaza were sleeping. Days prior, Israel had cut off the food supply and other essential services in that region of northern Gaza. Israel purposely set fire to tired, injured, hungry homeless children, women and men. This was undoubtedly a holocaust. And it's not the first holocaust that Israel has committed in the past year. These holocausts aren't The Holocaust. They're a series of never-ending holocausts that Israel is wantonly committing. And Israel won't stop committing holocausts - they need to be stopped.Holocaust: destruction or slaughter on a mass scale, especially caused by fire or nuclear war. From ancient Greek, meaning ‘burnt offering’.Edit: The term holocaust was used before WWii to describe massacres by fire, because this has been a common method of committing mass atrocities. Settlers in so-called Australia also used fire to massacre First Peoples, for example. The Holocaust of WWii is sometimes capitalised, while other holocausts are not. Using a word that has existed for eons to appropriately describe what Israel is doing to Palestinian people does not trivialise the horrific inhumanities of the Holocaust. If being forced to think about holocausts occurring, right now in Palestine, makes you uncomfortable - then I suggest you sit with that discomfort and reflect, then raise your voice against those that commit holocausts. #Holocaust #Palestine #StopGenocide @palestine

Whether they are public figures or the person next to you - there is something very dark and wrong with people that twist themselves into knots to defend baby killers and silence anti-genocide voices.

Earlier this year, many of you contributed to Ahmed Issa's crowdfund (who'd I met at Palestine Writes festival last year), to help him and his young family escape from the genocide. I forgot to post follow up news: he did escape to safety, with his wife and two sons. And is applying to universities to continue his education. Ahmed promised to pay it forward if he got out, and he's indeed been doing that. He's set up a scholarship program to mentor tertiary students in Gaza. He needs financial support to continue this work > https://gofund.me/ee7f3f8aNow, the sad news.Sha'aban al-Dalo, the young man that Israel murdered with fire yesterday, was a student supported by this Scholarships for Gaza. Shaaban had earlier been injured in a bombing attack when he was sheltering outside of al-Asqa hospital. He was then treated, stitches and an IV, and was once again sheltering in a tent outside of the hospital. Israel then burnt him alive. The world watched Shaaban's last - excruciatingly painful - moments. On Insta, Ahmed Issa's shared his last communication with Shaaban: @palestine #StopGenocide #Gaza #Palestine

Are you really a Mastodon mod if you haven't seen at least one report for Nicole the Fediverse Chick in the last 24 hours? The rate she keeps opening new accounts, she's like the Eveready bunny

Adulting hard today. Finalised executor tasks - finally. Booked dog into vet appointment (late stage cancer). Done hospitalised daughter's laundry.Remaining day's tasks are: dishes, scholarship application, patting dog, and writing my next novel. Then Cyndi Lauper concert, for a little treat. (Thanks past-me for buying an early release ticket)

Over on Bluesky, westeners are reporting Palestinian accounts and Bluesky are suspending. On Mastodon, westeners are also reporting Palestinian accounts for seeking mutual aid. Everyone has the right to seek mutual aid. Not just westeners. Even if it makes westeners uncomfortable to be reminded that apartheid Israel is starving and massacring Palestinian people.Don't like being reminded of genocide? Well, don't report people seeking mutual aid for their dying families. Just use your fucking privilege and scroll on.

Some of you may have seen the media articles, press releases, open letters etc about me having a prestigious literary fellowship rescinded hours before the award ceremony on Tuesday. I'd flown to Brisbane for the event, only to be told that morning, in a brief meeting. I was not provided with much context as to my perceived wrongdoings. The Black & Write program (writing Fellowship plus editorial internships), along with other invaluable literary programs for First Nations writers, is now under review. https://www.slq.qld.gov.au/about/news-and-media/media-centre/statement-state-librarian-and-ceo-vicki-mcdonald-am?fbclid=PAQ0xDSwKZIiBleHRuA2FlbQIxMAABp-tOJs2hAv1Cu27cf74OEX1ve61kFR-796CIRo8vqXfpAGGr-Eu5XfnEwEyO_aem_54HEYoHYfatVFhPdXpeDMwMy thoughts are with the other (still confidential) recipient, who has had their moment stolen. Along with the other short-listed writers, esteemed First Nations peers on the judging panel, and the Blak-led Black & Write Team. I also feel for people who were turned away, including Elders, not knowing the ceremony had been abruptly cancelled. Including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders - both community members and people working in creative industries - that initiated and supported this program since 2010. I'll be okay. And I'll continue to lift up other First Nations writers and artists. And I will not be silenced

2/ I'd like to share with you the acceptance speech that I was not able to give, because I and the event were cancelled:-I acknowledge that I’m speaking on the unceded lands of Turrbal (tour-a- bul), Yuggera (you-gu-ra) and Jagerra (Jar-gera) peoples and pay my respect to their Elders, past and present. I’m overwhelmed to be awarded a Black & Write Fellowship, and grateful to the judges, the Black & Write team, State Library of Queensland, Copyright Agency, Creative Australia, and new publishing partner University of Queensland Press. I also thank Create SA, Creative Australia and Neilma Sidney Literary Travel Fund for arts funding to develop this manuscript. Countless people have inspired this work of fiction. Many have passed on, some too soon. I will always treasure the stories they’ve shared with me. In this moment, I think of my mother, a member of the Stolen Generations. She passed on shortly after I’d finished writing this manuscript. I dedicate this work to her.Through this novel, I pay respect to every Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander person who was taken by the government as a child, and their parents who grieved this unfathomable loss. And acknowledge the people who help heal the trauma and advocate for justice. In my story, children are taken home with the help of a sentient whirlwind. In reality, not all of the tens of thousands of forcibly removed First Nations children came home. And very few have seen any form of justice. Next Monday it will be 28 years since the Bringing Them Home Report was presented. In that time only 6% of the recommendations have been actioned. Stolen Generations survivors are passing on, without justice. Recommendations need to be completed now, not when they’re all gone. And current rates of out-of-home out-of-community child removals need to stop. We must learn from the past, and not keep repeating injustices. >>>> 3/

3/-While I write about historical acts of state violence, the state of Israel is currently silencing writers, poets and journalists through assassination, abduction, torture and starvation. We’re witnessing an unprecedented live-streamed genocide. Last week was the 77th Nakba commemoration, and Palestinian people are still enduring catastrophic injustices. As I speak of the Stolen Generations, right now the apartheid state of Israel is murdering, orphaning, abducting and forcibly disappearing Indigenous children. What will these stolen children be called in the future? Will they ever see justice? We must not be silent or silenced. We all need to speak up against crimes of humanity – past or present. And reject despair and apathy. Through sharing stories we strengthen global solidarity, and plot better futures. Literary programs, such as Black and Write, enable our stories, our truths, to be heard. I’m honoured that the judges selected this story. In closing, I offer my congratulations to [redacted] and short-listed writers ]redacted]. I look forward to reading all of your books one day.

adding, this fellowship for First Nations writers includes editing of the two recipients' manuscripts, $15,000 each, skills development, and potential publishing with the program's partner publisher. So, yes, this is a huge hit to me financially and career-wise. But I'll be ok, eventually. And I will not be silenced over human rights abuses - past or present. Indigenous solidarity is powerful. That's why Indigenous artists, writers and academics are being targeted by people in positions of power and privilege.

Walter Marsh is a South Australian journalist who has intigrity. So rare in media. And he's a damn good researcher and writer. This is what he wrote about my rescinded literary award.https://www.indailysa.com.au/inreview/books-poetry/2025/05/23/chilling-effect-local-first-nations-author-denied-literary-prize-over-palestine-post-2?utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=InDaily+SA+News+-+Lunchtime++23+May+2025&utm_content=InDaily+SA+News+-+Lunchtime++23+May+2025+CID_971a33a6e2cd9977d06d0e7000d1d140&utm_source=EDM&utm_term=Chilling+effect+Local+First+Nations+author+denied+literary+prize+over+Palestine+post

This type of behaviour is also happening on Mastodon. I've seen countless false reports, driven by anti-Palestinian racism and westerners' discomfort re mutual aid for Arabs/Muslims - admins/mods panic (or are themselves racists) and delete Palestinian accounts, often blocking/limiting allies' accounts.I'm proud to be on a mod team that doesn't react in this manner, and instead investigates reports fairly to respectfully reach consensus. We're not perfect, but we're also not cruel bigots.https://www.middleeasteye.net/trending/bluesky-faces-backlash-over-alleged-censorship-palestinian-voices?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=Social_Traffic&utm_content=ap_lw3ecxaqty

@aral @joynewacc Ahmed Issa might be able to help with university connections. He started Scholarships for Ghazza about a year ago, which he promised to do when he successfully crowdfunded for his family to escape the genocide. I met him in 2023, he's a genuine nice guy.His program helps people in Gaza apply for university scholarships, and be matched with mentors from all around the world. He promtoes his program over on Insta, but this guideline might be of assistance > https://drive.google.com/file/d/10YcJNfowgNQzrDJqSVQ5JdOacuwVpkAT/view?fbclid=PAb21jcANUuvVleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABp9umpEKm1ZtFr6Yijk8Gcb7FFTPZxCK2CrdZ8p0j51wGIkm7hN-LCBVYdnpi_aem_knsLY_jOJNvVtqhcXcxtPA&pli=1

I rarely post on Mastodon anymore, but I've been sitting on exciting news that I'm supposed to keep secret - hardly anyone I know is on Mastodon, so I figure it's safe to blurt out some secrets here.....This week I signed a book contract, and my next novel will be out either late 2026 or early 2027. With a publisher that I've had on my wish list.I also negotiated for some small changes, so feeling pretty proud of being able to understand book contract lingo and have the confidence to ask for changes.Shhhhh...... it's still a secret :blobcatpeek:
