@futurebird Other: Wolf. Once went to a "wilderness park" where the half-wild wolves were about to get fed. They started howling. No matter how many time you"ve heard it in movies, the real thing made me (and my academic colleagues) feel like running to the nearest cave and put a big fire at the entrance. Insta-stone-age-brain-trigger.

@futurebird I volunteer in such a free shop In Berlin which exists about 15-20 years now, rent is paid by donations. People bring stuff, others pick it up. We actually have a huge turnaround: if something is in the shop >3 weeks, it's usually out of season (xmas decoration!). Especially household items & books go quickly. But I do wonder about the huge mass of clothing that passes our shop: books you read and pass on, until they really fall apart, but the amount of clothing is truly crazy..

@dan613 @futurebird I do hope so, still, even if you see it as a "clothing library" (yes. some stuff comes back multiple times), I'm pretty sure the amount of clothing that passes our small shop in a year could have clothed the whole of Berlin twice over. So.. where does it all end up?? We suspect some "hoarders" shop with us, but only a small percentage. I'm afraid free shops are only a very small, & temporary, "hold" on the clothing mill, and still a lot of stuff gets dumped when still good..

@futurebird @dan613 yep, that's a fundamental problem: in the free shop we notice the quality of clothing has gone down absurdly. The fabric of a T-shirt 20y old is better than of a new one still with label.. Repairing or making your own clothing is "out": It's cheaper to buy a sweater than to knit it yourself.I do some upcycling as one of the free shop side projects, but it is still a drop on the hot plate of overproduction. The "quality wardrobe" you describe is an exception unfortunately.

@futurebird uhh.. only eggs over here that are in plastic (and very thin transparent plastic too) are the pre-boiled, pre-dyed easter eggs. Normal eggs have been in carton as long as I can remember (or, as a kid, when we bought them directly from our farmer-neighbour, we brought our own multi-use hard plastic boxes)

@futurebird as a teenie, I once bought a book from the clearance bin with beautiful drawings of possibly life 100 million years after humanity went extinct. All speculative of course, but with a good scientific base. Later, as a biology teacher, I used it to trigger my pupils imagination (and explain the mechanics of evolution in a fun way) with it."After Man" by Douglas Dixon, I have the dutch version, still would recommend it.

@futurebird My (born feral) rescue cat is black and most definitely prefers the darker shades. I have a red and black checkered floor, and she's seems to prefer the black parts. Or I might notice it more, because I more trip over her when she lies on the black parts :)

@futurebird 1. Alien baby being born2. Leopards eating face (face getting eaten by mini-dragons would work too utterly btw)

@futurebird Berlin, 1 person household, electricity <1.000kW/year (pretty stable every month = 100 kW), no AC, no car, just pc, light, fridge and such. Heating, hot water, cooking by natural gas, unrenovated "half-basement" apt, so leaking like hell, and 7.000kW/year for gas = average 580kW, peaks in Dec/Jan/Feb. For past month, 7kW heating/day average, so 310 kW total.

@futurebird the first house my sis bought had 70s brown carpet on the ceiling of the bathroom. Fluffy carpet. It was obviously vacuum cleaned too.Yes, first thing they ripped out
