@textfiles I’ve been digitizing stuff for years now - I’m curious to see what your pipeline looks like.

@riley @hybridhavoc @mmasnick This is as close to an apology as anyone can pry out of Elon — and it only takes the threat of Elon paying out $100M to get it.

@lowqualityfacts High quality fact: Spaghetti and toothpicks can easily disable a lock so that it can no longer be opened, by jamming the keyway. This is widely regarded as a “dick move”, however.

@Cloudguy @jbwharris @bowreality This is why I don’t have any voice assistants at home. IoT gets a separate WiFi network. Streaming boxes get their own wired network. None of them can see each other, I have to switch my laptop between them to manage devices there.

@Artemis201 @Cloudguy @jbwharris @bowreality “Your device is spying on you - and you shouldn’t be complacent because YOU can’t think of a reason why they want it. You should be worried because they have already found MANY reasons why they want that info.”Sounds a little conspiracy-theory, but it’s close to the mark without being technical. But then again, some people pay to submit their DNA to get a paper report full of pie charts of dubious accuracy.

@wjmaggos @mike It’s almost like BIPOC people aren’t some monolithic hive mind and each have their own technical preferences - but want freedom from new forms of the same old bullshit they’ve been putting up with for centuries.

@lauren This, and the Snowden revelations that the NSA (and probably every other three-letter-organization) is elbow-deep into all of the cloud providers, is why I don’t have any cloud services except two small public web servers. #InfoSec

@restofworld Anyone who knows me at all knows that I’d go to jail for 5 years rather than abstain from bacon.

@lowqualityfacts You've convinced me, if only an act of defiance to virtually extend a middle finger to the birdsite and it's owner.

@backpackandsnorkel Was there last year, and got to enjoy my first 5.0+ earthquake and several days of aftershocks. The locals seem very chill about it.

@backpackandsnorkel It only lasted about two or three seconds... So it was scary for a minute or so when you wonder if that was a little one, or the big one. Almost immediately, maintenance staff came out from every direction and were checking on the building and systems to make sure nothing was damaged, so it felt reassuring that they knew what to do. The aftershocks took some getting used to, but it seems like the building codes are written with this sort of seismic activity in mind.

@backpackandsnorkel I’m always conflicted when I find a place like this…. I want to share it with the world, but I also don’t want them to ruin it. :)

@brosandprose "Blocking" on Xitter is CPU intensive - the algorithm decides what you should see first, then has to check each of the Xits to see if it's from people you've blocked, then remove it from the list, then maybe go back to the algorithm to get more, rinse, repeat. This is actually a pathetic and desperate effort to save money on cloud computing costs.

@RTP Remember everyone, the one and only response to any government demand to weaken encryption is “Show us how it’s done. You implement it first.”All the reasons they can’t do it are all the reasons we can’t do it.

@cnx @RTP That’s an argument for open source mobile OS’s and reproducible builds and tighter security in general. Ensuring data is secure in transit and that the protocol isn’t weakened is also critical. This fight for privcy and security has multiple battles on multiple fronts.
