Mastodon is now at 1 million users … same as Twitter was in 2008 when I joined (as @james_slezak@twitter.com )

real tech idealists would find this extraordinary and inspiring: 10X growth in under a month, with a fully decentralized and open sourced architecture it’s extremely telling that the financial and industrialist hustlers who pretend to be tech idealists don’t

I object to the idea that news requires a content warning
News is the lifeblood of an informed community and the basis of its power to act rationally. It shouldn’t be treated as sensitive content. If people really can’t deal, they can unfollow the poster. CWs add friction and a judgmental status to the content.
(And the idea of de-federating servers that don’t enforce CW norms is project-stopping, circular firing squad stuff)
To succeed in growing a healthy community this has to be easy.

@ladyteruki it seems like a very thoughtful thing to do. however some people are demanding that all posters do it, and some are going further and advocating for de-federating severs that don’t require it. that seems much less thoughtful We all have different preferences. That’s the basis on which we choose to follow or unfollow

@jeffjarvis @kailagenevieve @Sanlear @timbray @kathygriffin @Michele people who are against algorithms can just turn them off in their settings. even twitter allows users to go back to chronological feed. There’s a reason most people don’t choose that

@paulg if you don’t agree with somebody’s goals it makes no sense to wish them success
