@shadowfacts Great episode. One of the best for Crusher. I was always disappointed they didn’t do more with her character. Gates McFadden is a wonderful actor and I wish the writers gave her more episodes (and that they had never let Sub Rosa see the light of day).

@shadowfacts Oooo, I love the “Hide Reblogs” filter. It would be nice if we could easily change that on the fly. When I’m catching up with a long timeline after not logging in for a bit, I’d sometimes like to be able to quickly turn them off to see what my friends have posted. But generally when I’m scrolling throughout the day I like seeing them. Thanks for the great new features, this app rocks.

@shadowfacts Loving the new Tusker beta. I have a feature request: could there be better visualization of replies on the home timeline? I’d love to have an approximate count of replies, or other visualization indicating how much conversation exists around the post. For me, it’s a time saving thing—visualization here would be helpful to know if I should click to see the expanded post view. Also, if a post has a lot of replies, I want to click to see what the hubbub is about. Thanks!

@shadowfacts No worries. Totally understand! Could you clarify the meaning of the chat bubble icon? It seems to mean “there are comments” but sometimes there are comments and that doesn’t show? Thanks!

I may teach a workshop on Mastodon at my local #library. I’m thinking of calling it “Social Media in the 21st Century: #Mastodon, #Pixelfed, & the #Fediverse”. I’m going to keep things easy. I want participants to walk away with an account and seeing the fediverse as much an option as traditional social media.A couple of questions:1. Most newbie friendly free #Android app?2. Suggested newbie friendly account/webUI settings?3. What’s one tip you think every new Mastodon user should know?

Question for anyone who runs their own #Mastodon instance or follows #FediTips:I am considering starting my own Mastodon instance for my small town, which would be part of an upcoming class on Mastodon for my local library. I’m looking for suggestions for turnkey or near turnkey options for hosting my own instance. I am tech savvy so I know how to SSH, use *nix platforms, things like that. But I don’t have the time or inclination for unending tech tinkering. Thanks!

@Wolven So many people that I know in politics (including myself) talk about their love of Star Trek: The Next Generation, and I think it’s for similar reasons as TWW. It presents an idealized view of leadership where collaboration and curiosity along with a strong sense of ethics can overcome all challenges. While TNG can suffer from its late 80s “end of history” idealism, at the same time the myth it developed, like TWW, has had incredible staying power and impact.
