@stux Time will tell. Meanwhile you've done the right thing by unblocking the community. .art has value for a lot of us.

I am about to kick some journalists in the nuts real hard.YOU failed to report on the dire warnings of scientists the past *checks the 6 IPCC reports* 33 years with your bloody "both-sideism" and now it's our fault? Fuck you, the Hill. Fuck you very very much.https://thehill.com/policy/energy-environment/4057045-catch-22-scientific-communication-failures-linked-to-faster-rising-seas/

@TheConversationUS in all honesty, the amount of woodburning done in residential areas shows that reduction of air quality by gas stoves is not something people worry about. If they would, woodstoves would be illegal in residential areas. But here we are, coughing away due to the neighbours "cosy warmth".

1. If you think #valencia is out of the woods, think again. The cut-off low that pulls humid air from over the meditteranean across the mountains north of Valencia is not done yet. In the coming 2 days the @kachelmannwetter multimodel ensemble predicts up to 177 mm of extra rain in the region of #castellon .Not only #Spain but the entire #EU will have to have a difficult conversation on how we'll prepare us for #weather #disaster amplified by #ClimateChangeA thread.

2. Not just the past days, but the whole summer the temperatures in the Mediterranean were warmer than average. Due to the extra evaporation, this gives a bunch of humid air hanging around above the mediterranean. You can find the temperature anomalies for the Mediterranean Sea on this website : https://www.ceam.es/ceamet/SST/SST-anomaly.html

3. A low pressure area is circling in front of the coast of Portugal, and that circulation drags all this moist air over the mountains surrounding Valencia. In the satellite images you can see a plume of very cold and wet air rise right above Valencia. This is caused by the wet mass of air above the mediterranean that is dragged over the mountains by the circulation west of Portugal. Quickly rising air cools down, and this causes the intense rains.

@stux I do believe you, but it does make me wonder how this came about. I've upped my donations over the time that I'm using your great service, so did costs rise faster, and/or did the ratio paying to free users change?

Looking for a new instance. mods here removed a post of mine refering to one of the best known and most described cases in the history of pharmaceutics. Effects on the feutus (teratogenic effects) were not studied, which is why softenon/thalidomid was prescribed to pregnant women, with the well known disasterous effects. It's the reason for fundamental changes in drugs testing and approval across the world. But some dude yelled "antivax" and they went along with it. https://www.sciencemuseum.org.uk/objects-and-stories/medicine/thalidomide

Anyone suggestions for an instance? Geographically I'm in Belgium, I do like science but I dare posting/reposting stuff about politics as well, I do like weather very much and once in a while I'm being very silly. Preferably something stable. I don't mind paying a contribution for server costs, I do so now for @stux as well.

@Sustainable2050Saddest thing is that we've seen this coming for years, and if they would've listened to their own scientists, it would've been at least delayed. But they didn't just deplete their water, they destroyed the #aquifer .#Iran #Tehran #earthscience https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/sciadv.adk3039

RE: https://mastodon.ar.al/@aral/116000462944591897@aral Alphabet ran 230 billion profit in the period septebmer 2024-september 2025. So a 68 million fine scaled back to my yearly income (let's pretend all my income is profit) would mean a fine of about 15 dollars. It's meaningless. That's not a fine, that's a very low fee for being allowed to ignore the law. Until these fines are calculated as a percentage of the revenue ( not profit!), nothing will change.
