If your #freesoftware #opensource app asks me to choose if I want #telemetry on or off I will choose on (if the shared info is acceptable), if you have telemetry on by default or have it mandatory and I will not use your app at all.

The world needs more people capable of thinking that someone is good person and that they deserve human treatment, but also disagreeing with them. More people capable of thinking that someone stands for something good while believing their execution is flawed, or that their subgoal is unimportant or even counterproductive.Just because you agree with some groups mission, does not mean that every member is completely infallible. That's insane, but that's groupthink.

I love #gnome, i think its the best DE, but the files app leaves a lot to be desired, it copies files so so slowly when compared to the usual command line utilities, and you cant find out any information about ongoing operations, all you get is the type and progress of the operation and the base dir of the destination for transfers. Its so bad. On the other hand it looks really great.

I think the most common types of courruption are thoes that are not even illegal becuase the general public is too poorly educated to even percieve as wrong. Like when a government or government funded school forces people to do bussiness with a company directly or indirectly.Like forcing people to use proprietary software and or sofrware only compatible with a proprietary operating system or hardware device. Or forcing official bussiness to be conducted through for-profit proxy company.

I don't like #stackoverflow because i feel that it is wrong and dangerous for the developer community to give one entity so much control over us. But I go on there all the time and I have never seen the toxicity that people are always ranting about. Is it toxic to make corrections or help a person ask the right question so as to release accidental self imposed restrictions?Does anyone have an example of something that people do there that is toxic?

How can the people who sit down and write evil software licences live with themselves? Reading the nvidia cuda licence makes me want to cry.They want to restrict us, take away rights we should have as human beings, in the name of protecting themselves from their customers. As if they would be harmed if we had freedom and security. As if their sense of security is worth ours.I would not want to live if it was my job to use the law to or software to abuse human beings.

I have never known a piece of software that is more difficult to configure than vim and neovim. I think that a lot of users are oblivious to how bad it is because they just pipe a shell script from curl into their shell, and it works, and they did not have to actually do the configuring. Or they struggle for longer than they would ever admit and just pretend that it isn't that bad because they don't want to look bad.

I hate that we have inverted the meaning of the word "search" in the context of software searching. "To search" used to mean that you had to hunt for something in a pile of irrelevant stuff, now "to search" means to be handed answers without searching for them.

Do not use #cloudflare thinking that you will be able to control your site. They are a dangerous company to work with, I've heard horror stories of big companies being threatened with brand new $100k bills. Now here I am as an individual, If you want to transfer you have to first allow them to proxy your traffic (eg MITM your site). If you do transfer a domain to them they take away your option to use your own nameserver, it costs 200 $/mo to get the feature back, its free everywhere else.
