@aljazeera Who tf is doing all this consumer spending? I strongly suspect it isn't the people who will be most crippled by rising interest rates.A far more effective strategy is targeting marginal tax rates on upper middle class earners.

@kingsley Just my opinion, but Democrats focus far too much on Trump as an individual. Trump was an opportunist who seized the rising wave of RW reaction. If it's not Trump, it will be DeSantis or some other rogue. It was the failure of the US legal system to punish the *leaders* of this mvt that now gives them another shot at closing the deal.

@NoahH Great Russian Nationalism is necessarily linked to the global fascist movement. Sadly, some sentimentalists on the trad-Marxist spectrum buy into Putin's de-nazification narrative. Whether Putin is just trying to destabilize the West by amplifying fascists is irrelevant - the bottom line is the fash will be around after Putin & Biden are both gone.The focus on great power competition masks the fact that internal politics of the US, China, and Russia are converging.

@KimPerales Democrats have enabled deficit hysteria for decades by promising austerity measures to fix this non-problem. Every time they have actually attempted this it's resulted in economic disaster.You may have noticed that austerity measures never seem to apply to military or natsec spending, nor to vast subsidies and tax cuts to megacorps.
