Concentration escapes me this week.Yesterday, for example, my wife handed me a frozen treat. It was a couple bites worth of ice cream covered in a chocolate shell. I unwrapped it, opened the trash and threw the ice cream in the trash instead of the wrapper.Ugh.

@futurebird @whknott having taken both Calc and Stats, I'd say statistics was harder for me.But then, I'm no mathematician. Math is a tool to accomplish a goal, not something to play with.I've met people with the opposite opinion, and that's fine. We just need to realize that those opposing philosophies can complement each other or fight each other. It's up to us to decide which it is.

@futurebird @Dss there was a court case about this!A man checked the data rates for his phone plan before going overseas and saw it was .02¢/MB or something and thought that was fine.Then he got a horrendous bill when he got back from his trip. They'd charged him 100x what was listed on the site..02¢ is two-hundredths of a cent, NOT two cents! But, he had to convince the judge of that fact.

@nazokiyoubinbou @joby @futurebird @CptSuperlative @emilymbender I use LLMs generally for two things: Things I know how to do, but don't have time (but can quickly check the accuracy), and things I don't know how to do, but can check the results. Fermented statistics is useful when you know and account for its limitations. It sucks if you don't because you often get a confident answer that is plausible, but wrong.

@VisualStuart I was probably in a crib, playing with toys.A few years after, we moved to Washington. In 5th grade, I got topological maps of the before and after, carefully traced and cut each elevation line into cardboard making a model of Mt. St. Helens with a removable top.

@futurebird so long as I can steer clear of the leaded water, it might be interesting!A culinary tour of Ancient Rome! What did they _really_ eat? Were the feasts as lavish as the tales would have us believe? I wish the Democratic party would send flyers out X* months before an election to encourage people - not to vote, but to RUN for office!Too many times I've not been able to vote for the democrat for a position because nobody was running against the republican.* I don't know how long it takes to get on the ballot. They'd need to:1 Take stock of which positions are open2 Send mailers out in enough time for the recipients to respond.3 Vet the responders for ability, passion, background check.

@futurebird there's a saying about people who say not what is true, but what must be true to support their philosophy.I can't remember it precisely though.There must be a hoax so the belief he is not a criminal can exist. If there were no hoax, he must be a criminal. So, he pronounces the existence of a hoax to keep the idea of his innocence viable.
