Time for my #introductionHi there, I am a #paleontologist with a focus on dinosaur tracks. I like to program stuff and collect datasets, trying to show that tracks are usefull after all. Currently I work on algorithms to predict gaits from trackways, and on AI approaches to analyse track morphologies. Besides tracks and dinosaurs, I am also interested in sustainability, birds, moth, Linux, and other things. And no, I never was on Twitter.#science #paleontology #dinosaur

Spectacular new dinosaur tracks we described this year from Lesotho. These are natural casts (sediment infills), as the layer the dinosaurs walked on has already eroded away.Fotos: Oliver WingsOpen-Access paper:https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/08912963.2022.2117042#dinosaurs #science #paleontology #lesotho

@JoannaKobierska Nice! But it looks huge with this background, more than dog-sized. In fact, it was only 380 grams in weight.

The alps lost a whopping 3.5 m of ice cover last year, according to new glacier monitoring data from Switzerland. This means a decrease in ice volume by 6% in just one year.https://climate.copernicus.eu/esotc/2022/land-cryosphere#climate #climatechange #science #alps

Bitcoin mining produces as much carbon emissions as Greece, and as much waste from small IT equipment as the Netherlands. It is a prime example of how economic growth is only possible through the use of more energy and resources, and how this growth is increasingly disconnected from what people actually need.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Environmental_effects_of_bitcoin#bitcoin #energy #climatechange #economy #waste

@futurebird Where did you edit the "Race and IQ" article, and what was the response? I can't find it in the article history

@futurebird I do think, though, that we made progress over the last years, also regarding discussion culture. I know Wikipedia as a overwhelmingly progressive place. That can be quite different with such honeypot articles, and yes, those are often a problem. And yes, we have many problems, but no obvious solutions to them, unfortunately.
