They care nothing for the well-being of the mother. And it's because the adoptive parents are nearly always wealthy that they have 100% of the power in this transaction. This mercenary attitude carries over into regular adoption, too. It's essentially the same pool of unethical people trying to buy an infant without the slightest consideration for the chaos they are creating in multiple lives. My mother got pregnant in 1959, before she married my dad. Her parents sent her away to have the baby, and forced her to give him up for adoption, though she begged and pleaded to keep it. When the boy was born, she knew she would not be allowed to keep him, so she was as cooperative as she could possibly be with the doctors and adoptive family, hoping they would allow her to remain in contact with her son. But they disappeared with him immediately after the birth. She convinced the doctor to let her know their last name, and the first name they gave the baby. For the rest of her life she paid an extra fee to keep her maiden name in the phone book in case he ever tried to find her. When the internet came to be, both of us spent years trying to find him. He had an unusual last name, and we knew his date of birth and place of birth. Eight years after her death, I found his death record. He had died in 1983, at the age of 24. We'd spent decades looking for someone who was already dead. The mother-child bond is often that powerful.Adoptive parents are a lot like johns- they think that the women they are exploiting are fully willing participants, when in fact the women may be miserable and going through with it out of financial desperation or duress from other factors. A mother who is compelled to give up a child is going to do whatever is necessary to find the best possible home for that child, and if that means she has to hide her true feelings, she'll do it. It's hardly different from a prostitute pretending to enjoy the encounter with a client so he won't tell her pimp she was complaining or asking for his help. (And no, I am not comparing pregnant women with prostitutes- just the attitudes of those who exploit both of them)Social conditioning to please others + coercion through financial pressure or family ties can render a pregnant woman powerless. It's reasonable to suggest that at least some of these women don't actually want to give up their babies. Where is the oversight to protect them, when the baby-selling industry is so powerful and lucrative?

@ChasingWaterfalls Totally agree. And there is another layer to the male vs. female debate. With regard to hand and eye coordination and the ability to make a powerful break, men and women are physically equal when it comes to billiards. I say this as a woman who can walk into pretty much any bar and run the table all night long. That said- I can also say that not ONCE in my life have I ever been able to play pool in a bar without several men- and occasionally the whole bar- attempting to harass and intimidate me to either choke on every shot, or leave the bar. If the protocol is to place quarters on the side of the table, I have to introduce myself and ASK who I will be playing after, and say "OK, I'M AFTER JOE, GOT IT", otherwise some dick will deliberately knock my quarters off, and I'll have to depend on Joe or Fred or whomever to back me that it's my turn.If there's a chalkboard, I make sure to write my name clearly, and I have to watch it like a hawk because the next guy who comes up might erase it. All women's names get erased in some bars. It's so fucking pathetic that women have to run this stupid gauntlet because men are so territorial over a fucking pool table. Some guys will let you win so they can come on to you. Most guys will try to give you advice, and get pissy if you don't pretend they are some kind of amazing pool guru. It's rarely simple or fair for a woman to just play the damn game. I've gone to ridiculous lengths to buddy up to bartenders and bouncers just so SOMEONE there has my back.All of THIS is the disadvantage that women have when it comes to playing pool. I should throw out a disclaimer here... I've played in some pretty rough biker bars. It's not quite as stressful in the nicer establishments, but if you want the staff on your side, you need to buy drinks, and I can't make myself pay $12 for a beer. I've never had a pool table in my house- another advantage a lot of men have, as they can more easily afford a house that can fit a pool table, and they are more likely to share that activity with their sons than their daughters. Billiard halls are expensive and not every town has one, and most bars don't have regulation tables. It's just not as easy for women as it is for men to practice in peace.
