@Wolven zoom and fb aren’t scraping anything like google and openai are, right? They’re just using the data their users are directly giving to them.. I’m actually surprised they let you opt out? They don’t have to right? Not saying this cause it’s good, it sucks. Just want to make sure I’m not missing some mass scraping of other websites fb is doing

There has been a truck going around recently doxxing students at #Harvard, and this article talks about it. Absolutely abhorrent. If it were Jewish students being doxxed the truck would have been shut down immediately. https://abcnews.go.com/US/harvard-palestinian-jewish-students-paralyzed-fear/story?id=103927279 #Harvard #Islamophobia

I feel great sympathy for the victims of extreme Islamophobia in the world right now. For those in Palestine whose country has been colonized and who may be wiped out.For those who are being falsely accused of antisemitism for not condemning Hamas enough.

"Imagine feeling like the place that you're from is going to get wiped off the map. I feel certain that in a week I'm going to wake up and it's going to be that Gaza has been flattened and that there is nothing left. I can't breathe. I can't see." - quote from a student

@thor Response time right? Takes how long to see an image vs listening to a song. People just don’t genuinely listen like the do see

It's true that programmers can use Machine Learning to write code. But in my opinion, writing code is usually not the biggest part of programming. A thread 🧵(This is a modified explanation I found on the importance of learning SQL, I’ll source at the end)#MachineLearning #AI #Programming1/5

Usually the biggest part of programming work is;- Exploring data to try to figure out how we can answer the questions we need to.- Trying to understand why the code isn’t giving us the answers we expected (knowing the issues to check for, something we learn by working with code)- Cleaning our data or writing code in a different way, to get more accurate or more easily understood answers.2/5

A lot of Machine Learning (including custom Language models) rely heavily on data so as we start to use more Machine Learning tools - the ability to clean and prepare data likely becomes even more important.Sometimes people compare programming to an investigation. So you could think of learning to code as being able to walk around a crime scene yourself, examining the evidence.3/5

Whereas using a tool to write code for you is kind of like having to interview someone after the event, who doesn't speak the same language as you. You can have a translator ask the questions but you're hoping you already know the right questions to ask, and that there aren't any miscommunications in the additional hops. You can absolutely use automated tools - this will just help make you a detective leading a team of analysts, rather than a tourist hoping to get the right translation.4/5

@futurebird the best way to use language algorithms is to quickly access information you can verify yourself. Too often I hear people desiring to delegate their own decision making. It is an illusion that it is an advisor! I have had this same conversation with people. I find it interesting how people are wanting to trust it when they should be imo using it to come to decisions that they trust themselves

Is anyone here not a STEM grad who could help me unwind a, likely, false belief I have?To me, quantitative science: math and computer science, is objectively more complex and requiring of education & intelligence than the legal field. Does anyone disagree?

‘You can't make the word-guessing program into a "superintelligence" by shoveling more words into it. That's like betting that if you keep breeding horses to run faster and faster, one of them will eventually give birth to a locomotive.’-Cory Doctorowhttps://pluralistic.net/2026/01/29/post-american-canada/#ottawa
