@nerdpr0f it's not very detailed, but I just find its existence interesting: the professional association for scholarly historians has issued guidance on this. https://www.historians.org/jobs-and-professional-development/statements-standards-and-guidelines-of-the-discipline/guide-for-dealing-with-online-harassmenthttps://www.historians.org/research-and-publications/perspectives-on-history/march-2022/trolling-history-social-media-harassment-from-abroad

@grammargirl does "sanction" carry both of its completely contradictory meanings in both American and British English?

@brewsterkahle @internetarchive epidemic horse diseases, and especially zoonotic diseases, were an immense concern of 18th and 19th century cities. Such diseases could literally bring a city to a standstill.see Clay McShane and Joel A. Tarr, "The Horse in the CityLiving Machines in the Nineteenth Century."https://www.press.jhu.edu/books/title/3131/horse-city

Professor Longhurst Grades Your Locking, “She doesn’t even go here” edition:What…what is this? Did you reinvent the motorcycle a century later? Did you reinvent the wheel and put it in a bike rack? This is no longer a bicycle. This is now a motorcycle. Like the original development of the motor bike, you’ve taken a heavy bike frame and fit an internal combustion engine in the triangle. It’s really quite ingenious; I don’t think this bike would probably have had a front disc brake to start.

I think the pedals would still work, though there’s no way to shift gears on the derailleur. And you’ve even remembered to add-on some sort of custom muffler! What you haven’t remembered is any kind of lock. (I also think you’re missing any kind of rear brake, for added excitement.) All this fabricobbling and no lock to secure it. If I knew how to start this thing, and was courageous enough to ride it, I could be gone in seconds. If I wanted to pedal without starting the engine: longer.

(I think it’s possible the bike had a front disc to start, but I dunno. Why is the QR lever on the same side as the brake?)
